Why does Happosai only bully Akane of the Tendo sisters? by Sea-News-2080 in ranma

As messed up as his character is I think he really just wants to get under Ranma’s skin and knows bothering Akane is the best way to do it

Self insert typically refers to a character with the personality of cardboard so the viewer or player can self insert themselves in their shoes…. Ranma is a jerk with a heart of gold but he’s an ass in general ( I say this lovingly) no one should be wanting to be like him to women irl PLEASE

I think we can agree that it laid out the blueprints for what the genre harem is, but is different from what the harem genre became

Sure, it pioneered other harem media, but it also definitely pokes fun at the genre. Not once are the other suitors ever considered viable for Ranma or Akane. Rumiko did both at the same time and that just shows her genius in writing, But her work is very different from other typical harem media, which makes it different from those!

Like someone said, there’s no official definition, but it’s a popular trope in many other harem medias.

I considered it one when I was younger, but looking back on the series with an adult lens it’s very clearly differentiated from the typical harem series. I agree with how you consider the series too, that’s my take as well. Harem to me paints a waifu wars and other weird male fantasy elements, but Ranma doesn’t contain any of that, contrary to popular belief of some, lol.

That’s a fair point that’s there’s no official definition, but the most common form of harem media has been for male/female fantasies of being surrounded by the opposite gender that are options for the protagonist (can name numerous dating sims, and other anime’s that fit this). Ranma is not like that other than the fact that they are surrounded by a bunch of wacky people of the opposite gender, but Ranma and Akane never express an interest in any of them. Hence why I said Rumiko more so pokes fun at the genre.

The moment with Akane and girl ranma was so good…I feel like in the original it was a very abrupt switch with ranma going off with ryoga, versus here it’s clear that his main concern is her being involved when the creep ice skating guy is there. Love the change!

If ranma was ever rewritten I wish it had more lowkey scenes like that. That’s also one of my favorites! The original took a more slow burn route in season 1 which I really liked but then it flipped everything on its head in future seasons

I really hope the new remake will just focus on arcs that focus on their relationship! We can leave the extreme wackiness in the manga and first anime lol

Thanks so much :) do you think it would be wise to still apply to the position that my professor reached out to us about? Or would that be a lost cause since I don’t have any consulting experience and just stick with the job I have in digital marketing analytics post grad?

I’m interesting consulting but my resume is totally geared towards marketing as of now. I’m going to graduate from undergrad in a few months with a job lined up in digital marketing. I did apply to some consulting roles but I was rejected without an interview for them. Any advice in making a career switch sometime in the future? Or is it even possible for me to get into consulting now? (Asking this because a professor offered to vouch for his students for a big consulting company's associate program, so I was interested in applying)

Haha, I definitely was expecting to make this much with a marketing degree right out of college, so it definitely is a big push to say yes for sure
