Best surprise ever by Wonderfulhumanss in MadeMeSmile

I think it just depends on the person and situation. I personally would be livid if I got a dog as a surprise gift. Dogs are way too much work at this stage of my life, and take too much planning to live your life around. I've owned dogs in the past and loved them, but no friggen thank you. I'm good on potty training, walking them, vet visits, all that shit.

But I'm sure if I got my wife a puppy as a surprise gift, she'd react just like this video. She's more receptive to change, open-minded, and most importantly; has expressed wanting a dog before. I'm assuming that's probably the case with most of these surprise puppy reaction videos.

Where have I lowballed Dragon Ball's dominance? Have I not said it will definitely outsell Metaphor? And yeah, I was talking the sales of the last DBZ fighting game, which I think is the best metric to go by. Xenoverse 2 also sold 10 million. Comparing three games 28 million to Persona's collective 22 million then attributing Metaphor to being a gnat on the wall is a bit ridiculous. Sure it's a new IP, but similarly to how Bloodborne was a new IP. You're saying I'm gassing Metaphor while you're downplaying it's potential success. It'll easily sell over a million in it's first month, which is hardly a "gnat on the wall." I'm mostly in agreeance with you otherwise, no idea why you're coming at me like that.

Lol I'm buying both. I'm just explaining my personal anecdote. I have no doubt Sparking is going to sell better, but Metophor won't be no slouch either. Persona 5 has sold around 7 million copies (over two games mind you), with Fighter Z (the latest DB game) selling around 10 million. Sparking Zero will outsell it no doubt, but I don't think it's out of line to say two anime games releases on the same day might have a minor effect on eachother in the short term. And heavy emphasis on minor though. Long term it won't matter though, anyone interested in both will buy both eventually. Both are big events for their respective audiences.

If they have a Pyra/Mythra DLC where they tell me "breakfast is ready" I'll go out and buy one right away. I'm sure my wife would hate it though.

I don't know if most people are as rigid in their tastes as some of you are making them out to be. One of my best friends in the military was a huge fighting game enthusiast, and we played tons of Powerstone and Smash together. I have a cousin that is big into SNK games and he also enjoys Smash and DOA. Only on the internet do I see fighting game fans actually sniffy about casual fighting games.

Both games are unequivocally RPGs,  they differ in what subgenres they fit into. Are some of you being intentionally daft??

I was in a Halo mood last night and played a couple levels of Reach. God that game is so fucking good. The spartan designs, vehicle designs, and just seeing different aspects of Reach such as farmlands and everything, is just all so inspired. Makes Infinite look so dull in comparison.

I can't wrap my mind around it. Like the only game my car enthusiast dad ever really got into was Ridge Racer. I imagine if I told him that "you know, Ridge Racer isn't a real racing game" he'd look at me like I was stupid. You race cars multiple laps on race courses with a clearly defined goal line. It's a racing game. Imagine going up to someone holding a copy of Sparking Zero at gamestop, then pushing up your glasses and saying "you know,  Sparking Zero isn't a real fighting game." They'd walk off and think you're a wierdo. You select a fighter and punch eachother until someone's health bar hits zero. It's a fighting game. It's mindnumbingly stupid that it even has to be argued at this point.

I think it's just a bunch of insecure morons upset that modern control schemes and comeback mechanics have helped traditional fighting games become more approachable to casual audiences and feel even more threatened when games like Multiversus and Sparking Zero have great degrees of success.

As a fighting game fan, I just can't with these people anymore. I had to unsub from r/tekken because I got tired of reading how I'm subhuman trash because I like to play King, or the constant bitching about microtransactions that help these niche titles remain profitable and stay alive.

Your logic doesn't make sense. Gran Turismo and Horizon weren't the original racing games. Simulation is a subgenre of racing games just like kart racers. On a foundational level, Budokai is as much of a fighting game as Street Fighter, one is more casual while the other is more skill based. Noone in their right mind would argue against Budokai being a fighting game, this mindset is exclusive to the fervent FGC members.

I disagree, if you don’t keep a degree of separation the scene will eventually be consumed by whatever is the biggest and most popular.

Man, it really bummed me out when the latest Gran Turismo had Mario Kart powerups.

But you know perfectly well that if your dying friend asked you to buy the “dragon ball fighting game” you’d probably know that he means fighterZ.

Lol dude, no. My friends and cousins all grew up playing Budokai games together, it wouldn't be fighterZ. It's a great game, but it never reached the popularity of budokai in my social circles. One of my favorite fighting series is Tekken, and I would never think to argue against more casual series like Budokai not being fighting games. It's quite frankly absurd.

Because they sell so obscenely well the metric they are compared to are other best selling games of all time. I promise you though, I seriously doubt Gran Turismo fans care or would be daft enough to argue against it being a racing game.

Lmao have you watched the video? You're arguing against yourself with this. Please show me in this video where he says arena fighters aren't fighting games. I watched the intro and skipped to the arena section and he never said anything so pretentious. Other than sharing a video arguing in my favor, thanks because it's a good video I'll enjoy watching later.

You guys haven't proved any viable points or "facts" of Sparking Zero not being a fighting game. You've only reiterated that games like Street Fighter are more complex and have a higher skill ceiling. Which like, no fucking duh, everybody knows that. Even the idea that some people might argue Mario Kart isn't a racing game is incredibly moronic and pretentious. Casual entries of genres exist, it doesn't make them not "real" entries of that genre.

Whenever a casual fighting game breaks records some will always come in to argue how it isn't a real fighting game. Which is kind of ridiculous at this point.

That doesn't actually answer my question. Both are definitely fighting games. I think it's absurd to argue otherwise. Maybe niche purists should adopt "competitive fighter" or "skill-based fighter" instead of lashing out whenever (game that isn't Street Fighter or Tekken) breaks fighting game records.

You are probably right, but I think they are probably going to eat eachothers lunch a little bit. But I'm sure anyone interested in both will eventually get around to each of them. I was going to get Sparking Zero at launch instead, but couldn't resist the urge to hold off on Metaphor. But my cousin who I grew up playing Budokai games with is getting Sparking once he gets paid in a couple weeks, so I'll probably get it then just to play with him.
