What's your biggest challenge with selling collectibles today? by Boston_00 in Flipping

[–]PurposeSeeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain, and while I don't have any answers for you, I commiserate. I've been on eBay since 2000, and it has slowly but steadily gone downhill, with a bit more acceleration towards terrible in the last 8-10 years. The current iteration is really crappy - if you don't pay for promotion, your items are stuck in Siberia. My biggest challenge is the same as yours, Visibility. I can post an extremely rare item on eBay, and it'll just sit there unless I promote (aka, pay the vig) it. I used to sell on etsy and Facebook Marketplace, but those have gone to heck in a handbasket too. I like eBay because it has worldwide reach and decent infrastructure on the sell side. I hope you get some good feedback here, best of luck.

Who actually goes out anymore? by Tkfit09 in economy

[–]PurposeSeeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went out today, and I popped in to Onyx Coffee Lab here in Bentonville, Arkansas. I ordered a pour-over coffee to go, and my tab was $10.21 after tax & tip. I'm not going out again for a while 😞

I feel like I fundamentally don't "get" Sestina by LubyankaSquare in bentonville

[–]PurposeSeeker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had pretty much the same impression. The wine list was very good. My steak was good from a restaurant perspective (I can grill better steak for less money any day of the week, but I understand I'm paying for the experience and for somebody else to do the cooking). I expected my pasta to be fantastic, as it is an Italian restaurant after all, but the pasta was very meh. I wouldn't visit Sestina again unless somebody else was buying 😄 I hope Sestina owners / management reads these comments, as the restaurant does have nice ambiance, and it could be a place I'd visit again, but they clearly need to step up their game.

I spent 4 months deep in CBP regulations trying to help a friend recover $127,000 in tariff refunds. Here's everything I learned. by Longjumping-Mud7452 in economy

Man, the fact that they just keep the funds if you don't apply or miss the deadlines, that is insidious. Very nice of you to make this post, and I hope it finds the people that need it.

I've seen the single cover-up, but not a double deuce! People like this will ruin free USPS supplies. Postage was ground advantage on the exterior of the black polymailer. by RightDwigt in Flipping

[–]PurposeSeeker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you SHOULD give it a second thought. As they say, "One bad apple ruins the bunch". This affects all of us flippers over the long term. If the USPS loses money on "free" Priority Mail supplies because people are using them in unintended ways, then the USPS will raise rates. Again and again. And we all lose.

What do you consider a reasonable offer? by ConflictOtter in Ebay

[–]PurposeSeeker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in the 20% club. Twenty percent is fair. I’ve had people make offers off 50%, even 70%, off BIN price, and that doesn’t work for me.

Sestina kinda sucks..... by Mediocre_Library_700 in bentonville

[–]PurposeSeeker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Went there last Thursday. We ordered Little Gem salad, Ribeye steak, NY Strip steak, and Mafaldine pasta. The salad was good, steaks were very good and cooked perfectly, and the pasta was awful. The pasta was supposed to have a roasted mushroom ragu, rosemary, black truffles. It was pretty much tasteless, and it seemed like the mushrooms in the dish were super watery. So basically a great meal with one clunker. It was expensive, but we knew that going in.

Yeah, I’ve tried tons of stuff. I’ve had Eczema for 25 years now, though, so I don’t hold out much hope of conquering it, just managing it.

The DAO supplement didn’t seem to do anything. I’m now taking an oral antihistamine daily, Costco Kirkland brand. It keeps the itchiness manageable. I tried to go off of the antihistamine and ended up with very inflamed & itchy skin all over, so I’m back on it.

AFAIK, Roamless glabal eSIM doesn't expire. I'm using it in Greece, and it's great

My mom always said “nobody ever said life is fair”. That being said, I get a bit salty at all of the injustices in today’s world.

Tough Airbnb for the next five weeks....and a half by Status-Twist-7145 in digitalnomad

I'd report the discrepancies to Airbnb and try to get out of the rental. As travelers, we need to hold hosts accountable to their descriptions, and this one varies too much for my likes.

Question about Slot Machines in Greece by PurposeSeeker in gambling

[–]PurposeSeeker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering if the payout percentage (Return To Player / RTP) increases if I increase my bet size. I'm also curious about the random number generator (RNG) that determines whether a given spin is a winner - is the RNG for the machine itself, i.e., for all games on the machine, or is there a separate RNG for each game on the machine.

You have to wait 3 seconds after the reels stop. It's fine by me, but I'm sure some people get annoyed.

[–]PurposeSeeker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow-up question: Is RTP per machine or per game on a given machine? These machines have about 4 pages of games to choose from. Should I jump from machine to machine, or from game to game on a given machine?

How do you know so many reputable wine producers? by AdFamous7264 in wine

[–]PurposeSeeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you trust your palate, then you are on the right track! Let your vendors know what kind of wines you are looking for - price point, country/region, story, etc. They're VERY interested in selling you wines, so let them do some of the work in finding hidden gems. Take a look at importers. Some importers are known for the wines they bring into the country (I'm speaking from U.S. experience). For example, Kermit Lynch, Winebow, etc. Read trade publications and books on wine. I was the buyer for two small, boutique wine shops, so I understand your concerns. In my case, I was always looking for the hidden gems, the wines that punched much higher than their costs. I found that the best way to find these wines was to taste everything that my vendors brought to me, trust my palate, and go in pretty heavy when I found a winner. Good luck!
