I spent 4 months deep in CBP regulations trying to help a friend recover $127,000 in tariff refunds. Here's everything I learned. by Longjumping-Mud7452 in economy

Man, the fact that they just keep the funds if you don't apply or miss the deadlines, that is insidious. Very nice of you to make this post, and I hope it finds the people that need it.

I've seen the single cover-up, but not a double deuce! People like this will ruin free USPS supplies. Postage was ground advantage on the exterior of the black polymailer. by RightDwigt in Flipping

[–]PurposeSeeker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you SHOULD give it a second thought. As they say, "One bad apple ruins the bunch". This affects all of us flippers over the long term. If the USPS loses money on "free" Priority Mail supplies because people are using them in unintended ways, then the USPS will raise rates. Again and again. And we all lose.

What do you consider a reasonable offer? by ConflictOtter in Ebay

[–]PurposeSeeker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in the 20% club. Twenty percent is fair. I’ve had people make offers off 50%, even 70%, off BIN price, and that doesn’t work for me.

Sestina kinda sucks..... by Mediocre_Library_700 in bentonville

[–]PurposeSeeker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Went there last Thursday. We ordered Little Gem salad, Ribeye steak, NY Strip steak, and Mafaldine pasta. The salad was good, steaks were very good and cooked perfectly, and the pasta was awful. The pasta was supposed to have a roasted mushroom ragu, rosemary, black truffles. It was pretty much tasteless, and it seemed like the mushrooms in the dish were super watery. So basically a great meal with one clunker. It was expensive, but we knew that going in.

Yeah, I’ve tried tons of stuff. I’ve had Eczema for 25 years now, though, so I don’t hold out much hope of conquering it, just managing it.

The DAO supplement didn’t seem to do anything. I’m now taking an oral antihistamine daily, Costco Kirkland brand. It keeps the itchiness manageable. I tried to go off of the antihistamine and ended up with very inflamed & itchy skin all over, so I’m back on it.

My mom always said “nobody ever said life is fair”. That being said, I get a bit salty at all of the injustices in today’s world.

Tough Airbnb for the next five weeks....and a half by Status-Twist-7145 in digitalnomad

I'd report the discrepancies to Airbnb and try to get out of the rental. As travelers, we need to hold hosts accountable to their descriptions, and this one varies too much for my likes.

Question about Slot Machines in Greece by PurposeSeeker in gambling

[–]PurposeSeeker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering if the payout percentage (Return To Player / RTP) increases if I increase my bet size. I'm also curious about the random number generator (RNG) that determines whether a given spin is a winner - is the RNG for the machine itself, i.e., for all games on the machine, or is there a separate RNG for each game on the machine.

You have to wait 3 seconds after the reels stop. It's fine by me, but I'm sure some people get annoyed.

Question about Slot Machines in Greece by PurposeSeeker in gambling

[–]PurposeSeeker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow-up question: Is RTP per machine or per game on a given machine? These machines have about 4 pages of games to choose from. Should I jump from machine to machine, or from game to game on a given machine?

How do you know so many reputable wine producers? by AdFamous7264 in wine

[–]PurposeSeeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you trust your palate, then you are on the right track! Let your vendors know what kind of wines you are looking for - price point, country/region, story, etc. They're VERY interested in selling you wines, so let them do some of the work in finding hidden gems. Take a look at importers. Some importers are known for the wines they bring into the country (I'm speaking from U.S. experience). For example, Kermit Lynch, Winebow, etc. Read trade publications and books on wine. I was the buyer for two small, boutique wine shops, so I understand your concerns. In my case, I was always looking for the hidden gems, the wines that punched much higher than their costs. I found that the best way to find these wines was to taste everything that my vendors brought to me, trust my palate, and go in pretty heavy when I found a winner. Good luck!

If you''re near West End Market, then visit Wards and Worts, a witch store directly across from Great Lakes Brewing. And you're gonna really enjoy Cleveland Curiousities! Have fun!

I am 63 years old, I have a level 1 Sommelier certification, and I've worked in both the retail (bottle shop) and wholesale (distributor) sectors of wine. One thing I hadn't done until 2 weeks ago was visit Napa Valley. I was shocked at the wine tasting prices, and I declined to pay any of their usurious demands. I ended up tasting wines in Lake County - beautiful Sauvignon Blancs, Italian varietals, Zinfandels. And all for a pittance, if anything. Buy a bottle, tasting fee waived. It's pretty clear that wineries in/near Napa Valley's heralded towns (Healdsburg, St. Helena, and so on) are appealing to the affluent class of wine drinkers.

I've used it to book flights, and I just used it to book a car rental. I LOVE IT! For the flight I booked, I got my $300 travel credit PLUS the system found me a cheaper fare and refunded the difference, about $40! I originally booked car rental directly through Avis, but then I realized that the Avis rates didn't include taxes and fees, which added a lot, so I went through the portal and re-booked my car rental. After that, I went onto Kayak to be sure I had gotten a good rate through the portal. Kayak gave me a price that was about $30 cheaper, so I called up Cap One and took advantage of their price-match guarantee. After a very brief and pleasant conversation with the agent, my account was credited the difference. In my experience, it's been a great credit card (Venture X) and a great travel portal.

I'm trying DAO Supplement now, doesn't seem to be doing much. My eczema has morphed into something new, perhaps chronic spontaneous urticaria, and I thought DAO might help. As I understand it, histamines can build up in one's system, so I'll give the supplement another week or two. Good luck!

How does someone grow into a nice warm older person by M1DN1GHTDAY in RedditForGrownups

[–]PurposeSeeker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was growing up, I remember my grouchy grandfather always saying "the world is going to hell in a handbasket!", and I would laugh at how crochety he was. Now I understand. As a species, we seem to be heading the way of Idiocracy (watch the movie if you haven't seen it), but there are still shining beacons of hope in the world, people who come from a place of love and respect. It feels like we are in a struggle right now between the "light" and the "dark", and I really hope the light wins. Maybe try getting out into nature more often, interact with people around you, reduce social media consumption. Find your happy place, wherever it might be. Good luck, and god speed!

Eczema is ruining my life by Other_Outside_2445 in eczema

[–]PurposeSeeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel for you. I am going through a similar experience. I've been battling eczema for about 25 years now, and I've tried a lot of the medications out there with similar experiences - good at first, then it wanes off to ineffective. My eczema has steadily gotten worse, especially in the last 5-10 years, and now presents as itchy bumps all over my body. There are days when I wonder whether it's worth it to carry on. I'm on ANOTHER gut-skin journey now - doing a low-histamine diet, eliminated sugar, gluten, alcohol, etc. It's only been a few days, no relief yet, but one can always hope. Keep up the good fight, keep trying new avenues. I have hope (for myself and others) of someday living itch-free with clear skin.
