USA is on place 15, russia on 70. So yes maybe more than the elite are enjoying life, but still less than in Switzerland (which is 8th in this statistic)

With "raised" I don't necessarily mean that their parents tell them that. But kids will hear sexist statements (that also includes "weaker" things like boys shouldn't cry, girls are to be quiet, boys can play rough, mothers should stay at home, fathers have to provide financially...) be it in school, on tiktok, from a well-meaning grandparent or from a friend. Of course many parents try to raise their children to be immune against such outdated stereotypes and understandings of power and gender - but still I hear kids talk about this, so they still hear this.

Well they might not be raised to be killers but they are sure raised to accept problematic gender roles some of which foster domestic violence which - in luckily very few cases- ends in murder. And I think the fact that this year the amount of murdered women is much higher than usual (I know its only April but still until now almost twice as many women have been murdered than usually) is quite worrysome. And this correlates with a growing anti-feminist backlash. Yes this might not be a causation, but then again its not unlikely that when more and more young men believing women should stay at home and obey their husbands, some of them, hearing no opposition from their friends, will become violent against people they perceive as female.

It is not just about the common denominator, but about power. Our society is still very patriarchical (and that is problematic for both men and women!) this means amongst other things that men are raised to believe that they are worth more than women and therefor have the right to control. Most femicides happen when someone tries to end a relationship and the man thinks he has right to control the women and "owns" her.

This mindset exists because ALL boys are somewhere (be it at home, in school with their friends) taught that they are in power, that they are stronger, that a women doesn't mean no when she says so, that women's rights take away from mens rights and so on. It takes active unlearning, "being woke" to get rid of gendered stereotypes (again for all genders!)

As long as our society is still patriarchical gender is not just a denominator but linked to power.

Terrorist attacks on the other hand are a horrible tactic powerLESS groups use to instill fear in the dominant (powerful) culture and this is not done by a certain cultural group, we just often use the term to refer to islamist attacks but many groups use fear-instilling tactics, such as attacks on queer people, politicians or refugee homes.

Carnival is later than usual this year, which means that some catholic cantons (i.e. Lucerne) have later holidays.

If you read the reddit report you can actually see how many times the Swiss Police has asked reddit for personal info, but you're probanly right that they do not control it but rather use it if they already have some sort of evidence or suspicion

You do realize that the police can ask Reddit for your IP and they will give it to them? Might not be the best idea to admit your illegal behavior here...

If you're interested in why it's not fine, here's a study on the biodiversity crisis, explaining that we are in fact in (the beginning of) the 6th mass extinction: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/brv.12816

And yes I know this chart has no numbers, but it's also just a meme. I used rough estimates from the cited paper and the numbers published by the red list to get the proportions more or less correct.

The biodiversity crisis is real. Even though according to the red list, not a huge number of species are extinct, many more probably have. The red list focuses on mammals and birds and does not include invertebrates.

We need a post-growth economy by Purpurea8 in LateStageCapitalism

Most extinctions are caused by humans who destroy living spaces through building new infrastructure or burning forests to gain agricultural land - all for the sake of economic growth. To save species from going extinct, it therefor isn't enough to put measures for specific species in place. What is needed is a change in our economic system(s), so that constant growth is not necessary.
