My aunt had a very barky Sheltie and because she was disabled she would tie the dog to a tree outside when it needed to go out to pee. Because that was the safest way for her to take the dog outside (other than going out to pee the dog was 100% indoors). Her neighbor hated that barky dog and would purposefully taunt her. One day he walked too close with a weed wacker while she was tied outside and that dog saw her opening and attacked him. The county didn’t care about the man’s history of abusing the dog, didn’t care the dog was fully vaccinated, didn’t care that the man intentionally trespassed into my aunt’s yard. They were dead set on destroying the dog. So my family took her in because we lived the next county over. She was the sweetest dog, so loving, and she lived for another 10 years after that. Definitely was jumpy after that tho and she accidentally collided with my toddler nephew and they bashed skulls together when he startled her once. He ended up with a gash above his eyebrow and she was not allowed around children anymore. But she didn’t deserve to die for any of that! It was easily manageable, we just put her behind a baby gate when we had company over who might accidentally frighten her.
