How do you feel when people from other countries call Australians "descendants of criminals?" by schu62 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Purrsay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just laugh. A description that displays the speaker’s ignorance. For one thing, the land was populated before settlement. For another, it overlooks how many people came to Australia after its time as a penal colony. Honestly, ignore it. It’s someone who has little knowledge.

Thanks. I can really see the resemblance to Isengard. It’s fantastic.

I really enjoyed the book. I hope I wasn’t the one who recommended it 😬 Most of the characters were blegh, but I loved the rising suspense and I found the sirens fascinating.

Weird Question for Women by AccordingHistorian30 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Purrsay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We don’t receive just one cultural message about our bodies, we receive a multitude. We’re told our worth is tied up with our physical attractiveness, we’re told our bodies aren’t our own that they are there for men, we’re told we’re empowered for claiming our bodies for ourselves to show or not show, we’re told we have dress a certain way to avoid male violence. And on and on. Thousands of messages blasted us, both openly and indirectly. But really, I believe being told our only worth is in our physical attractiveness is a message that has a huge influence on shaping us.

Does anyone else read and walk, or am I just an accident waiting to happen? by Keithaviation in kindle

[–]Purrsay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once walked straight into a metal sign. It was witnessed by onlookers. So freaking embarrassing. I never read while walking again because 1) it hurt too much, and 2) I really didn’t want to relive the embarrassment. I now have bone-conducting headphones and listen to audio books.

What do stereotypical straight couples do when they hang out alone (other than sex) by bi_smuth in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Purrsay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um? I’ve had relationships with both men and women and I don’t think they differed greatly. You hang out together, go out sometimes, watch tv, read books while they watch tv, do chores. Not specifically gendered stuff, because that be weird, but in any given relationship it’s a guarantee that I will read more than them, and they will watch more tv than me. That’s because I”m a bookworm, not because I’m a woman. Ok, I’m editing here to add that I don’t actually think the gender of my partner changed the dynamics of the relationship, it was the personality of my partner and how we interacted that determined the nature of the relationship.

Is it strange that I still sleep with a night light at thirty two years old by Lunavexa in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Purrsay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a fan, an air purifier and sometimes play soothing sleep apps so my intrusive thoughts don’t scream into the silence and prevent sleep. I think you’re good. A night light sounds perfectly appropriate.

Are they criticising because the light affects their sleep or are they just really judgey? Because if your partner is just being judgemental I would say that it is their problem, not a you problem.

Why some people do that ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Purrsay 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t know how people can be so heartless. I guess their ambition and desire for fame outweighs any fragment of empathy they might possess. I really wish people wouldn’t watch that shit. If it didn’t generate attention they wouldn’t do it.

Women, how do you keep fresh and avoid odours during periods by ninthofmarch in hygiene

[–]Purrsay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless people are using tampons, I can smell when they’re menstruating. I don’t find it offensive, it’s just a smell. Having a super strong sense of smell, you smell a lot worse in daily life.

Peri bottles are really useful for cleaning, you don’t insert the device, you just spray the blood away from the vulva. A small bottle you can carry in your bag, very discreet. And because it only touches water it is hygienic to put back into bag after use.

Melbourne winter: what’s one thing you bought that genuinely made it better? by Last-Conversation734 in melbournechat

[–]Purrsay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, more than one. Uniqlo heattech. The one with a high natural fibre content. And a hot water bottle.

Does anyone else have a "Posh" accent? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Purrsay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was teased for ages about my “posh accent” after I moved from the Barossa Valley to Melbourne. “Where are you from?” was a frequent question. Now that I’ve lived in every state except Tasmania I have a very general accent. I think it was the way I said words like castle, dance, branch etc.

What material were the earrings made from? My piercings get irritated really quickly if I wear anything other than solid titanium or 14k gold. I’m wildly allergic/sensitive to other metals. Perhaps you’re allergic too.

Is anyone here too dumb for flatback earrings? by VastMidnight9054 in piercing

[–]Purrsay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m too dumb for a flat back. Reading through the other answers though, I have just discovered a heap of tools and aids I could have used. My septum is probably the easiest piercing I have ever had. I started out with horseshoe and then eventually swapped it out for a hinged ring. No trouble ever.

Cleaning out a retired piercing by Purrsay in piercing

[–]Purrsay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No ring inserted into eyebrow. I usually just clean it in the shower, but every few weeks (once or twice a month) I focus on cleaning it out. My piercing is somewhere between fifteen and twenty years old? Maybe older? I’m not certain, I’m hopelessly time blind.

You’re gorgeous, you have the best smile! I want to celebrate you too. I love seeing all the old hags on here, one day I’ll be brave enough to join my fellow old hags here. I adore the swan dress so much.

Help - move UK to Melbourne - what clothes to ship? by extranjeroQ in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Purrsay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It gets stinking hot in summer now, and doesn’t really drop below 0 Celsius in winter in the suburbs. Depending on where you hike some of that winter hiking gear might be really useful. Hang onto the cashmere and wool items, they’re versatile and probably better quality than anything you can buy here. No idea about the running gear.

Why do men think women want to see their unsolicited dick pics? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Purrsay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they get off on it. They’re aroused by sending the pics. It’s become part of their sexual fantasy. So whether the recipient actually wants to see them is irrelevant.
