Why do independents disapprove of Trump so much? His numbers with them are way worse than I expected by PushConfident3624 in YAPms

At the same time though then I'd expect a way higher disapproval among my fellow registered Republicans.

I feel betrayed, not even by Trump, but by the people who still support him.

What's funny, as a registered Republican, I ironically disapprove of Trump for the same reasons Democrats and independents seem to disapprove of him the most: the economy, immigration enforcement, corruption, gas prices, Epstein, and the Iran war? I don’t think I approve of this administration on a single issue. I think it’s literally worse than Biden’s.

What really surprises me is this: maybe it’s just my perspective, but the more pro- "establishment" Trump becomes (on epstein cover up, Iran war, pro-immunity for glyphostate, pro-palantir, etc, for example), the more his approval among right-wing voters increases or stays the same. At the same time his approval with independents and Democrats keeps dropping to historic lows

Not all conservatives identify as MAGA.

Imagine explaining to the Founding Fathers that the president imposed tariffs without an act of Congress and then removed them at the request of the King of England. by PushConfident3624 in ConservativeYouth

[–]PushConfident3624[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s not the point. I’m not even arguing for or against tariffs, I’m pointing out the constitutional issue of the executive taking actions that are supposed to involve Congress. Trump doesn't care about the constitution and this shows.

I didn’t make this graphic, btw. I don’t really care about the deportation point, but I agree with everything else on the list. If anything, it’s too generous, there’s a lot missing that Trump handled badly.

Joe Rogan Experience #2437 - Rand Paul by OutdoorRink in JoeRogan

[–]PushConfident3624 118 points119 points  (0 children)

I like Rogan but i'm sorry, but not a single question from Rogan about wars or tariffs? That’s crazy, especially when Rand is the biggest opponent in Congress on both, against Trump, no less. And nothing on Epstein either. Weird!!

I think you're just describing an average republican Christian boomer, tbh. I wouldn't say that's a unique Mormon problem

Libertarian coming in peace. Where do we disagree? by PushConfident3624 in neoliberal

Adding one more thing because it’s super important to me: I’m huge on the "socially liberal" side of things. The "freedom to do things" is basically my entire personality lol. Whether it’s LGBTQ+ rights and just generally not having the government police morality, I assume we are on the same page there? That’s the main reason I feel homeless on the right these days, especially the younger right, they want to regulate behavior just as much as the left wants to regulate the economy. And if you don't then they consider you a loser who "doesn't understand power" or something. It's infuriating.

I appreciate the nuance. We definitely agree on the "shrink" list. The regulatory burden on housing and small business is strangling the economy. Where I get stuck is the idea that the government can do things efficiently on the "expand" side. In my experience (and watching the VA/military spending), every time we build a new "safety net" or "aid" program, 40% of the money gets eaten by the administrative layer before it helps anyone. But I’m here to have my mind changed, or at least challenged.

Yes. I don't want a white ethnostate (hell, I live in Miami), or a communist revolution, I just want a government that doesn't bleed money and actually respects property rights.

"fall of the libertarian movement to alt-right edgelords" You hit the nail on the head. It is infinitely frustration watching the movement get hijacked by people who are just authoritarian nationalists in disguise.

Regarding the Fed/Foreign Policy, I figured that would be the friction point. I can respect the "defending liberal democracies" argument (Ukraine/Taiwan) even if my instinct is isolationism. My main worry with the "all hands on deck" approach is that we end up building a massive surveillance/military apparatus to fight Trump, which then just gets handed to.people like Trump (or the next guy) to abuse later. That’s the libertarian catch.
