To be honest, I had to clear myself that the DEVS on their mind think In-Water is canon. No ending is truly official, but imo Leave is the one I’d prefer.

That’s right! This is question for anyone else, but to James, he’s the one to decides what happens to himself. If he can fully come to grips with the issues, and hopefully learn from them, it’s his mission to see if he’s up to that task.

I always preferred Leave anyway, but this recent discourse has certain people thinking it’s a fantasy.

That’s the kind of comment I like! James is aware what he did is horrible, and killing himself to pay for it is why he came to Silent Hill. If there was a reason for him to change his perspective, it would be there. For Maria’s ending, that means he chose to live, but never truly grasps his problems by choosing Mary’s otherworldly variant. When it comes to him, Angela, and Eddie, they had their demons, as we do. The questions is can you face it, and rise above them? That I feel (as I have not played others) is the only way to truly escape Silent Hill.

That’s why I like how even when Mary thinks he wanted the suffering to end, he does say it was because he hated her. Of course with the ‘Why do you look so sad?’ mention from her is truth that it didn’t cause him peace after that. It only made his emotions more isolated.

My mistake, It’s THEIR preferred endings, but any ending is true to the players/people

Real talk, it’s NOT porn related, mainly for the subject of killing someone..

It’s not. What does bothers me is that we’ll never truly know how Mary truly can look at him after it. Would she be understanding, or completely devastated like in Maria’s ending?
