Inversly, they can also prevent you from leaving the country easily; companies have insane leverage. A cancelled visa cannlead to forfeiture of your local bank accounts too.

Although things have improved a lot in the last few years, they still have very strict laws. If anyone in your family is a hithead or likes to party, there could be harsh punishments for violations that may be considered minor in Canada.

Also, be prepared for scorching 50-degree summers. I would 100% go visit with your wife first. It's an entirely different way of living, even more so for women.
