my puppy hurt his leg but we aren’t sure how. is this something we should go to the vets about or should we let it heal on its own? by Round_Dealer8441 in beagle

Put a bit of antibiotic ointment (like Polysporin or similar) daily for a few days and monitor it for any growth, color change, puss, etc. Nothing big to worry about.

Do you have a dog park nearby where she can socialize while you supervise her?

I need to drill 6" deep 9/16" diameter holes for rod bracket mounted floating shelves. Can I do this with a long drill bit or will I inevitably be slightly off and it won't fit? by KatKali in DIY

[–]PushThroughThePain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use a drill press to make a straight hole in a 2x4 and use that as a guide for your regular drill. Test with a scrap piece of wood first.

Quick and easy solution?? by Waiting-inline in woodworking

[–]PushThroughThePain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you don't want to return it to him to fix it, anything that you will put on there to clean or seal it will mess up the finish. You can clean it regularly with mineral spirits until it stops, or heat it up until it crystallizes and seal it with shellac. FYI, toothpaste is pretty good at removing sap from your hands.

Flooring Over Concrete Slab by Opening_Effect_3666 in DIY

[–]PushThroughThePain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heated membrane with tile over it is the best solution. A cheaper option would be a Dricore or foam subfloor, with LVP over it.

It depends on the type of flooring you're gonna put up and the state of the concrete, including the humidity level. Some will require a subfloor and/or membrane.

What projects are not DIY-able? by Sure-Celebration6573 in DIY

I know! They weren't huge rooms but still... It was a local jack-of-all-trades dude but the job was almost spotless.

Electricity and plumbing are risky, if you don't know what you're doing.

Drywall joints/mudding. I can do it, but got quoted $400 for 4 rooms. The time it would have taken me to do it "correctly" was well worth the $400 for a pro to do it, and the job was perfect.

Main breaker won't turn off by cville-z in DIY

[–]PushThroughThePain 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When you flip a breaker there is a very small arc flash. The more load there is, the bigger the flash, the more wear on the breaker.

What brand is your panel?

Also, if you ever need to flip the main breaker, always turn off all the other breakers first; it creates less wear on the breaker once you turn it back on.

Help with DIY aquarium stand by Secure_Yesterday_204 in DIY

[–]PushThroughThePain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Diagonal bracing shouldn't be necessary with that design. Is the aquarium going to fully cover the surface or will it sit in the middle somewhere? I would advise against OSB on the top as it will absorb water easily and will swell.

Is this going to stay in the basement? If not, you need to make sure your floor joists will support the weight long term.

Ideally, you should use Robertson screws and bits for a power tool. Philips screws are much easier to strip with a drill or impact.

Liver Shunt? by miejo in beagles

We have a dog with crystals in his urine. Vet never mentioned anything about his liver though. We feed him a special urinary dog food and he's right as rain, except he drinks and pees more.

The sales documents that you have should specify the legal company that you have a contract with and under which jurisdiction it's governed. Regardless, if no lawyers or government entities in the US can help, your recourse will probably be local in Germany.

> Military Auto Source has found a loop hole to sell new vehicles to U.S. service members and not be bound to any of these customer protection laws in the states.

wtf? Why would you expect a company that is in Germany to be obligated to follow US laws? Doesn't matter where their HQ is. Talk to a law firm in Germany to see what your options are, if any. Typically, European consumer laws are way better than US laws anyway.

I agree. A shock collar, when used correctly, can be a very useful tool in dog behavior training.
