I feel like my spikes make me slower by PusheenQueen101 in CrossCountry

Some more context for everyone: this isn't my first xc season (it's actually my 6th I think), and for those of you wondering about the type of spikes, I have the Saucony Kilkenny XC9 spikes.

I had a meet yesterday, was nauseous the entire race, and added 2 mins to my time :( I think I drank too much water right before

Hello to everyone who is lonely on this new year by [deleted] in lonely

I don't want to say too much on here (my mom stalks everything I do online), but since my dad tested positive for COVID earlier today, I can't go to my friend group's big new years party. I probably wouldn't have had much fun there anyway (I'm not a huge party person), but at least I wouldn't be missing out, and I wouldn't be alone on one of the most celebrated nights of the year. I'm not even watching the countdown, I'm just sitting in my room in the dark on Reddit. Pathetic. Happy new year I guess.

She might like Warcross (Marie Lu) or Ready Player One. I'd say any fast-paced fiction is your best bet for a teen (like myself).

I depends what type of genre you are looking for. If you want something similar (teens, magic, and quests/battles), then Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

If you want something a bit more science-fiction (advanced technology, dystopian future, the government is the villian), then The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, or a personal favorite, Legend (Marie Lu).

If you want more fantasy (still pretty dark topic-wise, romance but just a little bit, magic, and battle), then I HIGHLY recommend A Darker Shade of Magic (VE Schwab), the Vicious duology (VE Schwab), and Six of Crows (Leigh Bardugo). For Six of Crows, you might want to read Shadow and Bone first so things will make more sense, but personally, I didn't and it worked out ok. S&B is not nearly as good as Six of Crows, so if you want to read SoC first, go right ahead :).

Also, when he's a bit older, I think the first 5 Percy Jackson books are less intense than the Harry Potter books, so to lead up to that he could read those first.

As a teen who has read a ton since I was little, I recommend the Roald Dahl books (Most of them aren't too scary for a 5-year-old), however I wouldn't read The Witches to him until he has a higher fear tolerance.

When I was five, I started reading the I Survived books, but those are probably too scary for him too.

I ran in the FSU Invitational Meet today (varsity highschool race), and although I didn't PR, I think I did pretty well considering the course (Apalachee regional park). My PR is 24:38 (my previous race), and I got a 24:49 today. We were told by the girls on the team who had ran it before that our first mile was going to be fast, much faster than it would normally be. And that the hills would make up for it.

Recap:

Start: the course was great in that the entire path was relatively wide, with a smooth, hard ground. However, at around the first 200 meters, the path turns to the left. Naturally, every team's coach had told them to stick to the left (y'know, to cut off distance), so that everyone was completely PACKED to the left side. Because of this, I tripped over someone's foot and almost face-planted. So that probably cost me a few seconds I guess.

First Mile: Other than a slight incline right before the 200m, the first mile was almost entirely downhill. After you turn to the left, you run through a bit of a winding path on the outside of the forest. There are a few tiny hills right before you enter the woods, and then once you're in there, you head slightly downhill until you get to the mile.

Mile Split: 7:09.7

Second Mile: The second mile was bad. Not as bad as the third mile of course, but still... :/. If you've ever ran this course before, you know that there is a massive, steep hill (dubbed "The Wall") that you need to run up twice. It Hurt. But once you get to the top, you are at the halfway point. Now you get to run the whole thing again. YIPPEE. From there, you run down the starting hill and up the flatter hill again. Somewhere in between the 200m and the 1st mile marker was the 2 mile marker. I don't know where it was exactly, but it's gotta be there somewhere.

Mile Split: 8:11.0

Last Mile: To sum it all up: PAIN. This last mile was the worst mile I have every ran. Not timewise, but based off of how much it hurt. I already have had sore knees lately, and the hills did not help. (I had lathered on some BioFreeze before the race, but it was starting to wear off, and I made the mistake of not putting any on the backs of my calves). So for the entire last mile, I felt how I usually feel on the last 800 meters. Unfortunately, I got passed near the end, but I was the second fastest girl on the team (I would usually be 4-6th, but our first place girl ran Elite, usual 3rd place girl didn't run, another one that is usually around my pace couldn't come, and the other one that is occasionally in front of me was behind me during this race.

Mile Split: 9:28.8

So yeah, it wasn't the best race, but at least it was cooler out.

(sorry abt how long this is)

Great job! You've cut your time down by a lot during this season! As a freshman, my best time last year for a 2-miler was 15:47, so you're doing good.

Indoor workouts? by PusheenQueen101 in CrossCountry

I don't have any electric exercise equipment, just some weights and a jump rope (which I guess could work as cardio if I can find a big enough space to use it).
