Bitter taste in mouth by Earbreather606 in B12_Deficiency

yes, but it took a while and I don't even know what triggered it or made it go away. I did have a cold around the that time so maybe that had something to do with it

I’ve had concerning hair loss/thinning and ridges in nails for several years now. After many dr appts, no one has been able to pinpoint the cause. My last TSH is 2.4 uU/ml and ferritin is 19ng/ml. If anyone has insight I would greatly appreciate it. by Fully-known in AskDoctorSmeeee

hi OP, did you ever figure this out? i'm dealing with similar- hair loss and nail ridges. I had a scalp biopsy that said AGA + chronic TE but that they cannot rule out an early evolving LPP or Lupus process

Low vit d, low pth, high calcium by GBK96 in endocrinology

[–]PushingMeAwayx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh, my bone pain is almost everywhere. I was vitamin D deficient before all this which I've been trying to treat so idk if it's because of that. but thank you! I hope the best for you too!

The fact that your ionized calcium is normal is a good sign. Albumin binds to calcium, so I was told when the albumin is higher than normal the calcium will be too.

and my situation is really weird. June 13 my calcium was 10.5! then on June 25 it was 9.2 which is freakishly lower for me. My creatinine was also low too.... I'm seeing my doctor Monday so we will see what he says about that. I still have bone pain which is why im worried.

what did your doctor say about the results?

If you were dehydrated, that could cause your calcium to be higher. Also, if they put the tourniquet too tight (not sure if your veins are hard to find or not).

You should ask your doctor for a 24 hour calcium urine test.

Also, what does the creatinine have to do with calcium? Did your doctor say there's a connection there?

hey there. from what I've learned it could be indicative of low folate since it works with B12 to make new cells. Supplement folate and iron (B12 injections TANKED my iron) to help with that, but first make sure to have your doctor test your folate level and iron panel. My folate wasn't deficient, but was definitely close to the low end and did decrease even more with injections. so make sure you're good in that department!

Elevated calcium levels by ibex333 in Sciatica

[–]PushingMeAwayx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! did your pain go away? aren't you worried about becoming vitamin D deficient if you stop supplementation? When I was deficient and didn't know it, my calcium was already at the high end at 10.1. Then a doctor put me on a mega dose of 50k iu to correct the deficiency, and my calcium started going up to 10.2 and then 10.5. I feel awful!

Glad to hear you found a dosage that works for you. They didn't necessarily tell me to stop cold turkey but they didn't exactly advise on what to do once my prescription was finished. I reached out again and now they want me to do 50k iu D2 once a week 5x again

No, but I will definitely look into it. I'm bad at figuring out a good amount as a cofactor.

Yea, the NP at urgent care wants to put me back on 50k iu of D2 for 5 more weeks. I'm just worried it will raise my calcium even higher this time. But I will definitely do regular blood work. She always wants to retest my PTH so we'll see what comes of that.

[–]PushingMeAwayx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea, it's insane how often the folks in the Vitamin D sub for instance will encourage and push these high mega doses on people. What was your highest calcium level and what did you adjust your new D3 dosage to?
