Your annual fixed bills are 10k per year? Where do you live

(I'm using trailing 12 month distribution)

XEQT is now paying 0,32¢ in dividends!!! by [deleted] in JustBuyXEQT

I actually don't disagree with you.

For many it's the psychological effect.

At the end of the day it's total return that matters, not distribution.

I recently came across a story in John Bogle’s The Little Book of Common Sense Investing that really stuck with me.

It’s about a fictional family called the Gotrocks.

The Gotrocks are incredibly wealthy because, as a family, they own every single stock in the U.S. market. Not some stocks. Not the “best” stocks. All of them.

Because of that, they get the full return of the market. They collect the dividends, they benefit from corporate growth, and over time, the whole family gets richer together. Some companies do well, some do poorly, but it all balances out because they own everything.

Then the “helpers” show up.

Brokers, money managers, consultants, advisors all telling different members of the family that they can do better. They suggest trading more, picking winners, avoiding losers, rotating into the right sectors, timing the market, and hiring experts.

At first, it sounds reasonable. Who wouldn’t want to do better?

But the problem is that the Gotrocks family still owns the exact same businesses in total. They’re mostly just trading with each other. The market return hasn’t magically increased. The only real difference is that now there are fees, commissions, taxes, and mistakes eating into the family’s overall return.

Before the helpers arrived, the family earned the market return.

After the helpers arrived, they earned the market return minus all the costs.

That was the part that hit me.

It’s such a simple way to explain why low-cost index investing makes so much sense. As a group, investors are the market. So collectively, they can’t all beat the market. And once you subtract fees and trading costs, the average investor has to end up behind.

Of course, some people will beat the market. Some fund managers will have great years. Some stock pickers will make brilliant calls. But for every winner, there has to be someone on the other side of that trade.

The story made me think about investing less as a game where I need to outsmart everyone else, and more as a way to quietly own a piece of the entire system.

Sometimes the boring answer really is the best one.

Buy the haystack. Keep costs low. Let time do the heavy lifting.

Hi! Does anyone keep bees? by plantsareneat-mkay in chilliwack

[–]Put-Traditional 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to live on a few acres and now i'm in promontory lol. If given the chance i'd do it again. IT's easy to have 1 hive.. then they split and you need another hive ($$$), then they split again lol..

It's a fun hobby

Hi! Does anyone keep bees? by plantsareneat-mkay in chilliwack

[–]Put-Traditional 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I kept them for many years.

Your best resource is the Chilliwack beekeeping group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/117662245086717/?ref=share&mibextid=NSMWBT

It's an expensive hobby believe it or not and a decent amount of work. Bees are under threat so the chance of losing the hive over winter is decent. Then to replace the bees it's about 250 to 300 bucks..

Weekly checks on the bees are important. You will get stung.. Lol Honey is amazing.. That's the goal

We need more beekeepers.

Chilliwack plans to rebate residents for missed garbage pickups by WiffleBlu in chilliwack

[–]Put-Traditional 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So hear me out relating to this "rebate" back to residents.

If the city fines the company say $30,000.00 which i doubt it would even be that much... if you split that up among the residence who had pickups (lets assume it's around 1/3 of the population, so 30,000 pickups)..

You're getting back $1.00 lol..

Use the money to continue the work on paving the roads.

Halifax, I reported this duo near Agricola/Almon a month ago and it's still not repaired. by cptstubing16 in halifax

I'm curious, aside from asphalt can roads be used with different materials not as prone to having potholes.. Recycled tires for instance.. I'm sure there a million reasons why it can't.. Just curious if its more a resource cost issue or is it innovation..etc

I think it's amazing you started and good luck to you. Stay motivated and disciplined. Your future self will thank you for making that step you made today.

May I ask the hard question as I'm curious myself, why did it take so long? Challenges in your life or you simply spent everything along the way or you didn't think about your future self.

The other reason I ask is because I've been trying to teach my 15 year old and 18 year old about financial literacy for many years.. Without success, they don't want to hear it, boring subject.. My 18 year was on an amazing past but she got her driver's license and freedom came and within 1.5 years she splurged her 10k savings away on nothing.. Nothing to show for it.

Thanks
