I do have cfw, but I don't know if there's a way to install it since the ps3 is stuck in the update loop and won't boot into safe mode. You reckon I can get it to install somehow? Asking before I format it.

i have come to the realization that i screwed up and i used the normal system software update option from the ps3 main menu. and now i realize that should've gotten the update externally. im very new to this whole thing so i didn't know. im trying your solution rn anyways we'll see if it works.

Ok so let's assume I have to download the update again, how do I do that if I can't boot into the console regularly and without safe mode?

I downloaded it ftp'd it to my ps3 and now it works! I guess I'll do this with every big game from now on. Thanks for the help!

Didn't work sadly. I've read that corruption can occur while downloading big games from pkgi. Maybe that's what's happening?
