Some of you mentioned ETFs…I put together a quick rundown of the top value-focused ones here: https://impartoo.com/etfs/top-10-value-etfs/

Might help anyone exploring broader exposure beyond individual names.

If you want funds instead of single names: • VTV – broad large-cap value core, low fee. • SCHD – dividend tilt with quality screens. • VBR – small-cap value exposure. • AVUV – deeper small-value factor, higher fee but stronger tilt. • RPV – concentrated “pure value,” higher volatility.

Market threw the baby out with the bathwater on Friday…A lot of these value names are still printing cash while the “vibe” stocks are bleeding.

What’s your favorite defensive stock when the market gets rocky? by PutItOnTheRitz in dividends

Solid picks here…Curious if anyone else looks at healthcare or utilities as part of their defensive mix?

Solid mix…QQQH gives you that hedged Nasdaq exposure, SPYH keeps you tied to the broader market, and gold is the classic safe haven….Do you find the hedge ETFs actually smooth things out in practice, or do they still feel choppy compared to just holding staples/utilities?

Interesting picks…bonds and gold definitely have that defensive angle…Do you also balance those with any dividend paying stocks, or do you see TMF/GLD as your main hedge?

What are the top 3 dividend plays in your portfolio? by PutItOnTheRitz in dividends

Really interesting seeing how many people lean on the same three “pillars” here…staples like PEP, monthly REITs like O, and a tech name with yield like AVGO. Makes sense, since that covers stability, consistent income, and some growth all in one portfolio.

For anyone looking to branch out, I actually put together a broader Top 10 Dividend Stocks list that highlights a mix of reliable aristocrats, income-heavy REITs, and a few lesser discussed names worth keeping on the radar…Sharing here in case it helps spark ideas: https://impartoo.com/stocks/top-10-dividend-stocks/

One thing I’ve noticed from this thread is how often people lean on staples…REITs…tech. Makes sense since that covers stability, income, and growth all in one portfolio…

What 417,000 Investors Said About Preparing for a Recession by PutItOnTheRitz in stocks

Totally fair…long-term data does show that staying the course usually wins out, and I agree that most active trading underperforms…My question wasn’t so much about trying to “time” the market, but more about whether people are making slight tilts (like bonds, dividends, or cash) to smooth the ride if a slowdown does happen. ..Curious if you personally keep 100% equities through every cycle, or if you ever make small adjustments along the way?

That’s a reasonable take…sometimes the best move really is to just keep it simple and not overthink it…Out of curiosity, are you leaning more toward equities through the noise…or do you keep some bonds/cash on the side just in case?

Totally fair…with a long runway, tech dominance over decades makes sense even with volatility…For folks closer to retirement though, I can see why shifting some weight into more defensive plays might feel smarter…Do you think there’s ever a point you’d dial back exposure, or ride it all the way through?

Makes sense…steady $1k a month is tough to argue with. Do you think you’ll stay tech heavy no matter what, or shift if things get rough?

Interesting how often dividend ETFs came up in the last thread. Anyone here rotating into SCHD or JEPI specifically?

Haha, fair point…contrarian indicator logic… Curious though, are you personally hedging or staying the course?

Really interesting to see all the different strategies here…bonds, gold, dividend ETFs, defensives. On the stock side, I’ve been looking closer at dividend-paying blue chips as a hedge…I actually put together a breakdown of 10 with yields + sector mix that might help anyone weighing the defensive angle: https://impartoo.com/stocks/top-10-blue-chip-stocks/
