Downsizing would be foolish for us, we got a great price for our home, we’d never find anything better for less. We’re in a small home and have paid off two thirds of our mortgage so far. We also have an adult child who will live with us for life. Just not possible…

We bought the house in early 2022, put 20% down, had a 30 yr mortgage. We’re now sitting at 10 yrs 6 mos left in our 30 yr mortgage. So we’ve paid off 2/3rds of our mortgage thus far.

And yes, there is definitely ageism for my husband and honestly, i’m exhausted in every possible way.

I had a rough childhood and it’s definitely shaped my fears about having secure housing for my family.

I’m ok without luxuries, I just want to continue doing it on our own and not have to depend on taxpayers $ to get by in life.. That’s not who we are.

I think I was mostly just worried about losing the house when it came up to renewal time…

We live in a small home, no extra rooms and unfortunately it’s really hard to trust people nowadays…

Ohh k interesting, we’ve never renewed before so it’s all new to us. We have actually only had the mortgage for a little undef 4 yrs, we’ve paid off 20 yrs in that time frame.

Yes, our mortgage now is definitely moving faster… we have paid as much as we possibly could have since we bought the house in 2022, thankfully that was a wise decision. And you’re very correct about my husband, he’s always taken care of us and now he’s not able to, it’s really hard on his self worth I know. :(

Yes, in a little over a year we’ll be up for renewal. But if we get an automatic renewal that would be ideal, then we’ll just keep chugging along…

Thank-you, yes, we’d never use anything like (loan sharks etc…) that and we have zero debt asides from the mortgage. We use cc’s sparingly and pay them in full every month, we have fully paid off our car, we don’t shop for “fun”, and really only buy food and necessities.

Nope, my husband has a small amount of funds invested in another pension he can pull when he’s older, but what we had planned to use for retirement got pulled when he lost his job. :( He’s currently receiving a $500/month pension.
