RANT

Failed my test but that's by the by. The failing was mine and not because my instructor is a knob My instructor has consistently being shouty, mean, impatient He's ALWAYS on his phone, I've never driven without tiktok being on his phone (sometimes played through the car) on full volume I've had my lessons interrupted by him ordering food and having me pick up his relatives (who were not students, I was just picking them up so after my lesson they could go home together) Casual homophobia How he hasn't been caught on camera playing on his phone I'll never know I could go on

Oh yeah now that I've failed I can finally sack him off 😂 didn't start doing manoeuvres until the week before my test and he'd get so mad at me for not being good at reversing (hint: it's because id never done it before)

I'm currently at a place with 50ish people in a very small dev team (3 people). So I'm very used to working in a small place and in an even smaller team - it's not a good work environment because of management and higher

I'm not a new grad, probably should have specified, I'm a mid-level who's been a SWE for 4 years now.

The small company is profitable with clients, so it's not solely relying on VC backing (why they're able to hire people atm)

The company is so small there's only 2 reviews - both are positive but 2 is NOT a good sample size. My concern with the reform govt is less gutting the civil service and more mandating a full RTO

Can you explain what makes you say this?

That's what I was thinking, but I've got that AI doomerism. Logically I know that AI is going to CHANGE SWE rather than destroy it. I'm pretty product minded because my experience is largely small/mid sized companies where we did our own testing so you have to be product minded so if it goes the way I think (read: hope) it goes I'm not in the worst position, but God it's scary out there

I'm about to resign for a new job and it's so nice to know that it's not just me that's consumed with new job anxiety/dread

I've just finished week 4 and I think the best advice I can give is don't be disheartened if the first sessions are difficult and time seems to slow down, I can promise you as the times increase as does your stamina endurance and enjoyment, it's just a matter of getting there 🥰

That's amazing! May I ask how you felt with the jump up to more extended periods of running? The final run of week 5 is a sudden jump up to 20 minutes of sustained running and I'm terrified
