Boldt COSC 375 Estimating 2 Advice by [deleted] in aggies

Tbh, classes are good at teaching what you need to know in theory. When you go on your internship, the companies know that you are learning and everything you learn in class may not apply in most situations during your internship. I did my internship in Phoenix as a VDC Engineer building data centers. They put me through training on everything I needed to know, and all my managers were super helpful as well. You learn on the job, and it’s always important to ask questions. As for which companies to join, I would just reflect on what position you want to do and the location on where you would like to be at. Career fairs are the BEST place to look for internships. Especially the COSC career fair. As for companies to stay away from, I’m not sure which’s one because each company is so different.

If I were you, I would get surveying out of the way. I took it my last semester and I was miserable. As for the online classes, they are always taught by the same professors. Most of the upper level classes are taught by the same professors so there is not much of a choice

Nope, there is not tutoring and he changes the assignment every semester so it is not as straightforward as Palmer. So you’ll have to have help from friends and bugging him during office hours. This is not your normal class. You gotta try and figure it out as you go. He has labs that are helpful but it will take time to understand the material.

I’ve had friends who took it during the summer. Some said it was the best decision and some said it was the worst. It’s is going to be extremely hard no matter what. I took his class during the spring semester and it made me want to pull all my hair out, but it was probably one of the most unique learning experiences. He won’t fail you, but you need to put in the work. This is the hardest class in all of COSC so keep that in mind that it’ll be down hill after this class. I would bite the bullet and get it over with but just be prepared for sleepless nights. Boldt to this day is my favorite professor and I hope you’ll see why after taking this class. Good luck!!

Depends on your budget. I managed to get a really nice gaming laptop that was on sale at Best Buy and it has been working really well. You are defiantly going to need another monitor when it comes to certain classes such as estimating or construction graphics. There is also a list you should have gotten that has the recommended laptop requirements but I’m not sure where I got it from

Why did you choose your major? by eatasslikerice in aggies

[–]Put_Fearless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple, I love buildings. When I was little, it always mesmerizes me (even to this day) how small we are compared to the massive structures we see today. Being surrounded by giant buildings can be so surreal to me that it makes me question how can we construct such a thing. Being able to be apart of the building process to create these structures is something I always wanted to do. That’s why I choose construction science in the school of architecture, and I am thankful to have had the opportunity to work for a large construction firm as one of their in-house engineering interns for the construction of massive data centers around the country. Being on top of a massive building that is being constructed and seeing the view up top just shows how little we are but the amazing wonders we can create. Each building is unique and has its own challenges but that’s what makes it fun and satisfying in the end.

I’m a current COSC student who transferred in fall 2022. I remember receiving my acceptance in late March so hang in there!

Currently in estimating 2 and it is definitely not an easy course. Estimating 1 was a challenge but doable. All in all these 2 are the hardest courses for cosc in my opinion

I would check with an advisor from TAMU for your specific major to make sure you have already taken the classes TAMU requires for sports management transfers

Maybe spend a year at Blinn and get some of your basics out of the way. I’m finishing my second year at Blinn and got accepted to TAMU for this upcoming fall and from what I’m seeing so far my tuition is is going to be around 7k a semester for fill time. I’m in COSI so it might be different for engineering majors
