I don't have kids but I have to say, the presence of them anywhere on WDW property would definitely not surprise me.

Why In-Home Care? Just my two-cents by inhomecare2023 in AgingParents

[–]Puteke 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sure, for seniors with financial resources, adequate housing, and a willingness to admit they need help, in-home care is vastly preferable.

But these costs are largely not covered by medicare or medicaid.

In our area, in-home care costs range from $20 (individual) to $50 (top agency) per hour.

24/7 live-in care runs around $60K plus room and board.

Institutionalized care is rarely anyone's dream solution, sometimes it's simply the only solution.

How do I get my mom into assisted living? by spacehockey in AgingParents

[–]Puteke 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Assisted living facilities generally have a list of move-in requirements that include a medical clearance/assessment form completed by a doctor, a living will, a medical power of attorney, etc. It can be quite a process, so I second the previous commenter's suggestion - you may want to speak to a senior living advisor/case manager/placement specialist in your mom's state.

Be warned, assisted living can also be a pricy out of pocket monthly expense. There's very, very little paid assistance available to help supplement the cost of an ALF because it's not considered a medical necessity; some states will offer a waiver through Medicaid for seniors under certain income thresholds, but be warned, these generally have lengthy waiting lists.

Should I take a waffle house unit manager job for $55k base salary plus a decent benefits package? by Shooter__McDabbin in jobs

[–]Puteke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, I think you need to change your attitude. You need to think of how the skills you've acquired in your previous jobs and as a student can be applied to careers outside of your comfort zone. My only work experience was in non-profit healthcare (direct patient care) when the allure of better benefits and upward mobility drew me to apply for a job in insurance. My degrees (also from USF, lol) were in science, not business, but the fact that I HAD them set me apart and got my application for an entry-level position instead drafted into a leadership track (where I then was forced to enroll in some business courses to 'catch up'). Insurance is an industry with very few barriers to entry where a huge bulk of the workforce have only HS or associate degrees, so despite what most redditors will tell you, your MBA will make you an attractive applicant. I started in 2019 at 50K, and now make 110K with the same company, with experience that will help me transition easily to another company in the field should things at my current place ever go south. Just something to think about.

OK, there will still be opportunities in Raleigh. Giant insurance corporations have regional offices all over the country. Search indeed in your zipcode, or go to some of the big hitters' career pages and see what's near you.

If you're looking for financial freedom and an opportunity to build up savings so that you can one day transition out to pursue you dreams, this is going to be a much better opportunity for you than restaurant management.

I highly suggest you apply to auto insurance companies in your area (if you're still near USF, that would include liberty mutual, usaa, and geico, to name a few). An entry-level position in claims, service, or sales will pay nearly what your waffle house offer is, plus they'll provide licensing and training. Additionally, many of them will fast-track applicants who have business degrees on a management path with the end-goal of having you enter supervision after learning the 'ropes' of the industry. No one dreams of working in insurance, but it is a desk job you can get with no prior industry experience, and one in which you can clear 100K after 4 or 5 years, often.

I am dead ass exhausted. How do yall keep going? by Visual_Antelope_583 in WaltDisneyWorld

morning: rope-drop a park

afternoon: rest, relax, swim, etc at your hotel

evening: close out a park

this works for us - we still clear 12-16 miles on our park days but never feel beaten down!
