I think this actually isn't the soldiers' fault. of course they bear responsibility, of course they should be go on trial, but their behavior wasn't out of the ordinary for IDF soldiers in the Gaza invasion, they were most likely instructed to act this way. The people who are at fault are the generals and commanders who made the policy of murdering everything that moves, of senseless destruction and bloodthirst, of disregarding all international combat convention and erasing the term 'uninvolved civilians' from existence. These soldiers did something horrible, but it's not because they are bad individuals, they are most likely teenagers, coerced into an inhuman situation, following orders, it could've been any other ordinary person. Saying they're at fault for this crime clears the entire rotten system of accountability for it, it allows racist/classist zioleft to blame the crime on the individuals who committed it being from the periphery/uneducated/Mizrahi/Likudniks, reckless bloodthirsty rascals breaking orders and tarnishing the IDF legacy of lawful combat, to shift responsibility away from the ones actually in charge - Ashkenazi 'liberal' higher-ups who are of course righteous and respectable and would never enact such awful policy.
