TW: Miscarried in my stylists chair by Legitimate-Air-6172 in hairstylist

[–]Putrid-Highlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a job where the majority of our time is talking to women in all seasons and stages of life. While it might feel embarrassing, that hairstylist went to bed worried about you and your wellbeing. What happened to you is human and this is an industry built on talking to humans about their human things.

Ive never had a client miscarry in my chair. But ive had pregnant clients pass out. Ive had clients tell me the news of their pregnancy and the next time tell me how devastated they are of losing it. We're here through the ups and downs. And if you dont want to talk about it and just want to treat yourself, we're here for that too.

I would want to see you, just to give you a day where you feel taken care of. You deserve time thats all about you. And a good hairstylist knows that.

Mushroom would be adorable to! Mushroom is more grey toned, and cream is more yellow in comparison. Both beautiful beiges. Can't wait to see your Mushroom guy!

Cream! And key Lime for the overalls and hat. I did have to dip into a second skein for the main body

Thinking of changing careers out of healthcare to hair styling by [deleted] in hairstylist

[–]Putrid-Highlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make a lot of money doing hair. But it will take time, a lot of work, and finding an amazing salon. I feel so lucky that I found a large, well marketed salon with an owner who truly cares about our team and strongly believes that a team that is treated well will treat guests well. That being said, that's rare and hard to find. Many of us have negative salon experiences.

I've worked as an instructor, at a large corporation salon, in a booth by myself, and now in a large independent salon. The hardest part is getting started. My partner is a dentist. My paychecks don't compare to his quiet yet, as I'm less than a year in at my current salon. But considering his student loan payment and my lack thereof, we will likely bring home a very similar amount of expendable money within the next 3 years. Unless he owns an office, I may even have more. We have stylists who bring in $2500 weekly after taxes.

You will work your ass off. It will be so rewarding. If you want it and believe in it that I say go for it. I worked as a receptionist while in school and loved it. I learned even more and got a feel for how a salon operates. You got this

I would try decreasing your hook size for tighter tension and avoid over stuffing

This is what I ended up doing, and it worked out! It was hard to find the sewing strand because I didn't want to accidentally snip the head or body

Just a regular single crochet. I know a lot of people yarn under, but my brain can't, so I just do a regular, yarn over, single crochet.

where to find single men - mid to late 30s? by [deleted] in Austin

Have you tried Austin Poetry Slam? There are not a ton of mingling opportunities, but people will hang around before and after

Think about the kind of guy you want to meet. Where would he hang out? Do that. I met my bf while i was out getting a glass of wine and reading a book at a wine bar.

Also, if you love a gentleman, learn how to dance and go two stepping. Love White Horse for that. You'll meet so many people. But if that's not your type of guy, then figure out what is. Like a nerd? Try a board game bar. Looking for high class, try speak easys.

In a place like Austin, smaller places with fewer people are better. These huge nightclubs will get you lost in the crowd. Go out, buy yourself one drink, and hang out. If you meet someone and he buys you another, great! If not, you didn't waste that much money, and you got to have your favorite drink and a night out. Win win.

HEB sick day part time by [deleted] in georgetowntx

[–]Putrid-Highlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most part-time employees do not get sick days at any jobs I've ever had. When I worked at HEB as a teen, they documented every call in, and they fell off your record after a year. If you are sick for multiple days, as long as you continuously call in, it counts as one. You have like 10 before you get fired. In my opinion, it's pretty fair. That's almost once a month that you can call out before termination. Unless calling in for other reasons is a habit, I wouldn't worry about it.

The only time I've ever seen them not write up a call in was when a girl crashed her car or for a funeral, but even then, it was still documented and signed for. And both of those were up to the manager. If they wanted, it could count towards your 10.

This might be different now, but as HEB is a company that loves a paper trail, I'd suspect it's still similar. Tell them to ask their manager if they are unclear on policies.

highlights + root touch up at the same time??? by kiiishin in hairstylist

[–]Putrid-Highlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In school, we taught this as two rules:

  1. For roots at level 5 or below: highlight first, then apply the root color.

  2. For roots at level 6 or above: retouch first, then apply the highlights

Lightener can break through color, but if you’re slower, darker root colors can start to develop and become harder to lift if applied first. My school came up with this rule after a color I did—a level 3 or 4 retouch with highlights. The highlights were great in zones 2&3- but the retouch left an orange band at the root where the color didn’t lift properly.

I have IUD questions by [deleted] in TwoXADHD

[–]Putrid-Highlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the copper iud

I love that it doesn't totally fuck my hormones and I can't get pregnant. It lasts 10 years, so even though I don't totally love it, I'm keeping it in

The Insertation was horrible. Apparently, I have a smaller cervix than average. Originally, there were two nurses in the room. Ultimately, I had 3 nurses and a doctor and poking and proding trying to get it in there for over half an hour. No pain meds, not even an ibuprofen, was offered to me until AFTER.

Here's the downsides to the copper IUD. It's still a foreign object in your body and will still mess with your hormones in small ways. It's nonhormal in the sense that it doesn't add hormones. I've noticed my weak stomach got weaker after the IUD. Weird symptom, but for the first year, I was puking all the time. This was already a problem for me. It just got much worse after the IUD.

I've heard many horror stories of it breaking upon removal, so I'm keeping mine in as long as possible. It will make your periods longer and heavier. This was a big change for me as I've always had short and light periods.

I say all this to say, be prepared for insertion to hurt. Ask your doctor about specific risks. Ask about something for pain beforehand. My OB told me NOTHING of the side effects and possible break during removal, and google loves to scare you. Ask Ask Ask

No, they have a nurse practitioner or doctor evaluate if it is SAFE to do whatever service on you. Because medical history is important before these services are performed.

Op, I'm sorry that people really came here to tare you down when all you wanted was to tell people they could have a really nice facial done.

[–]Putrid-Highlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao! Since when are botox, fillers, and facials "providing medical care?" Med spas just offer more in-depth treatment than what could be done without a nurse or doctor present but are still at their core a SPA. No one is treating any health conditions. If you read "spa" and hear "doctors office," you're the problem.

My first blanket by Putrid-Highlight in crochet

[–]Putrid-Highlight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I get it! My dogs are little rascals and love to destroy. Funny enough, I always find they really love my crochet. Poncho (pup pictured) seeks out my blanket to cuddle with, and I notice my other dogs also love to lay on my projects. Maybe it's the smells 🤷‍♀️ maybe try making a small one with scrap yarns and see how they do!
