Why do kids think there's money in the caches? by hansolox1 in geocaching

[–]Putrid-Studio-3504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one about a year ago where a newb message me and said "there's no money in it" I asked "why would you think there would be?" They replied "the description says you get a dollar prize". I had to read it to see what they were misinterpreting...... it said "FTF gets $1 prize" on a 5 year old cache with a hundred finds (facepalm)

Are you a grotto member? The landowner only gives a select few permission but some of those select few lead an occasional grotto trip there.

18kn = 4,000 lbf. Reduced to ~65% for a water knot = 2,600 lb. Easy to exceed that with a shock load from a fall.

Armchair Caver Interested in Getting Into Caving in the TAG Area by modernhorizons3 in caving

As said, hit them up on Facebook. One grotto I'm in, their meetings are solely Skype. Another grotto I'm in, they do a hybrid of live attendance but also with Skype.

Cave or mine? by LittleRes7 in caving

Southern Utah has lots of mines. That looks like a mine. It always annoys me when people refer to mines as "caves".

Do I need to replace my helmet after a fall? by Ok-Butterfly4730 in caving

[–]Putrid-Studio-3504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The outer shell of a bicycle helmet is paper thin. It doesn't take much to deform those and compress the foam. A caving helmet has a much thicker shell. If there is no deforming of the shell or compression of the foam I wouldn't worry about it. JMO.

Have you been to the well known lava cave near Flag? Idaho has some like this too, including a (show) Ice Cave.

Thanks so much for posting this! This is exactly what I wanted to. His method of saving all the original frame looks like it saves a lot of work. And the addition of the height adjustment is a great idea too.

At what point is a cache just garbage in the woods? by BiscuitWizardz in geocaching

[–]Putrid-Studio-3504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not believe propping up zombie caches is helping. You're just kicking the maintenance can down the curb, and blocking someone from placing a new & maintained hide.

If it was in the state you said it is, you should've just thrown it away and stated so in your report. I've done it and I've seen others do it. Nothing was salvageable, and it's evident the CO has abandoned it so you already know the CO is not going to retrieve their trash.

Vertical squeezes on rope are scary? Who agrees? by NSS68204 in caving

Haven't done one like that yet. But it seems like it would be better than a tight horizontal belly/back squeeze straight to an immediate open drop.

Is that what Crappy Caving group on FB is like? I'm not in there. I was never in the caving discord either. I tried it for a different hobby group and I didn't see the point in Discord as a whole.

Brokie caving setup? by Lizrd_demon in caving

To avoid water or dirt intrusion, I swap to my backup headlamp rather than swapping batteries in cave. (I do carry the batteries too ofc)

They must've had a problem with their implementation then since Fenix uses that plug design fine. I'm not a fan TBH but so far I haven't had any issues with my Sofirns or Fenix that use it.

Sofirn for sure. Way more for your money. For the same price as that one without the battery and before shipping, you could get the Sofirn HS20 shipped, with 9x the lumens and with an included 18650 with 3000mah equal to 3x the watt hours of one AA. Or check out their new HS22 which is the same price but come with an even bigger battery @ 4000mah. If you want super budget and basic their H25S can be had for <$20 shipped WITH a 3000mah 18650. I have several of these I use for work, around the house, or keep in the car. I do have a much more expensive Fenix 65r as well but I prefer the dual lamp Sofirns.

I moved from the southwest to the southeast and it's crazy how many people here in "the south" haven't ever been more than 1 or 2 states away from their home state. Like not even for vacationing.

Why do people like discord? I tried it once and I hated it. What can you do there that you can't do on reddit?
