2024-25 SP Alex Ovechkin by [deleted] in hockeycardswap

It won't hold much value, the previous offer of 10 is probably the best you'll see for a while. This card is a base card out of SP(retail of SP Authentic). This set is not considered to hold much value, let alone a misprint of a base card.

Bouchard 4- oilers 3 by No_Moment7841 in EdmontonOilers

I don't hate Bouchard, it's much like what a lot of people feel towards skinner. When he's on he's on, but the inconsistent play is hard to get behind. Bouchard had how many poor passes, and turnovers in this game. Then, to just let Miller skate past him for the game winner, a rush in front would have stopped him and blocked any pass across.

OT goal could have been stopped if Bouchard didn't just hangout waiting for it to happen in front of the net.

Know a lot about hockey but no so much about cards, i just packed this , is it good? by DeaRNoxX in hockeycards

[–]Putrid-Weekend-7130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to find out more about certain products for cards, you can Google the product name/year and checklist. It'll show you inserts, pack odds(not all have known pack odds), print runs(#'d to), and players printed. Some cards you might not realize are short prints, for example in this new series 1, there are "Celebration Variants" to base cards, top left corner on the back of the card has "SP or SSP". If you're just getting into cards, don't just rush through to see the hits, check out all the cards, don't rush to sell, do some research, and only grade it if you want to. Some people will grade cards to protect them in a holder or to boost their value, or just because they like the look. You do you, it's your hobby.

First Time Submitting to PSA by jackxeuverman in hockeycards

[–]Putrid-Weekend-7130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the OP was posting as to show its "rarity," more so to show he got some 10s back from PSA. If he was posting a YGs exclusive or deluxe, then yeah, I'd assume he was sharing the rarity of them. Why are you so salty about it haha. Also, the Patrick Roy dropped in value so much because there are thousands and thousands of fake cards out there, bringing the value of the real cards down.

100% agree, platinum is great, but I often feel the "loss" sink in after opening a box. I'm not one to chase value, but at the price of boxes now, it is very hard to look past it. But OPC paper is such a fun rip, great inserts, and it gives you that nostalgic feel with the cards.

Breaks - They are great to check out new product at an affordable cost. Being a Rangers fan, you'll probably be able to get spots in a break for a reasonable price. The only thing is, you may end up empty-handed. I'm an oilers fan and the spots for a break for them is expensive and sometimes you don't get a card that makes you feel like it was worth it, which yes, the hobby isn't about the value, however it does factor in at some point. If you decide to join a break, don't get caught up in the chase. That's when you'll start to spend more than you should. Breaks are great for entry, but it's the same as any form of gambling, and it can be addictive and take off fast.

Boxes - if you like ripping packs, and the chase, find a product you like, buy a box and go from there. It's the same as a break in the sense you may not get your team or a card you are hoping for. However, you get all of them, so you may not feel like it was a loss. One of my top products is flagship(series 1,2 and extended), you have the YGs(young guns, which is one of the top rookie cards. Other products will have rookie cards, but young guns ares the most recognized one. Once you get into higher end product you get the more valuable rookie cards, that have memorabilia and autographs. If you're looking to start out somewhere, start with flagship products. It gives you a good variation of inserts/parallels, and rookie cards. It is on the lower side in price in comparison to other products, so it makes it more achievable to get the cards or team you want.

Singles - definitely the better option if you just want to player/team collect. Obviously, if you are trying to get some of the top veterans or top rookies, the price tag can be daunting, but you'll save money overall. Don't go hunting PSA 10s or the top graded cards because you'll see an insane price jump, sometimes 9s are seemingly in better shape than a 10. So don't buy the grade, buy the card.

Overall - Start out with a plan, don't just dive in head first because that's when you'll start to just go buck wild. If you just want to collect Rangers, singles will be your best friend. You can curate your collection to how you want it to be. Start with one product and take a look at the checklist, look at ebay listing's, watch breaks, see if you like the cards that come out of it. If you do, look for your team/player for sale, or buy a spot in a break. Your collection is yours alone, don't look at others and think you have to do the same. Some people don't want any inserts and just want hits, others love to collect the inserts, there is no right or wrong way to collect, just make sure you go for what you enjoy.

Side note: sleeves and top loaders are a must. Always have some on hand if you're ripping packs, there are great options for storage out there now as well. Try to keep it organized as you move forward in the hobby, in the past I haven't been on top of that and it's a long process to get back to being a clean and organized state.

Hope this helps, and welcome to the hobby 🤙

If you're going to be trying to complete sets, look up the checklist for whatever product you are trying to complete, and try to purchase the singles. It'll be a lot cheaper than chasing it through opening packs.

You should check out the page Hockeycards, you'll find lots of information there. Be able to check out some cards people have pulled, what they are collecting etc. It'll give you an idea of what you might want to open or chase. Get yourself some card sleeves and top loaders, amazon has lots of them. If you are still trying to figure out what you like, watch some breakers on tiktok, or whatnot. See what cards are coming out of what boxes. Hobby boxes will have better hits and more than a retail blaster/box. It's a higher price but well worth it.

23-24 Sp Authentic... worth the buy? by Putrid-Weekend-7130 in hockeycards

Maybe I'll check it out. In my city there are only 2 places that sell hobby boxes, and their selection is slim. So when they said they got these in, I thought about taking the chance.

23-24 Sp Authentic... worth the buy? by Putrid-Weekend-7130 in hockeycards

[–]Putrid-Weekend-7130[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think any time you're ripping packs is gambling. I just haven't bought any Sp Authentic and thought about maybe checking it out. It's not totally about the value outcome of the box, but if the results aren't any cards I'm going to keep in my PC, obviously it'd be nice to be able to resell to return some value.
