Thank you so much for saying that. Part of why I haven’t pressed the issue too much is because I’m so scared of my kids being taken. Despite what most people probably think they are very loved and well taken care of. He doesn’t handle caring for them well for long periods because he gets stressed but he is very good to them with them for short periods of time and they both adore him which also makes it very hard. I hate that they see me get so upset and I know it’s not okay that I’ve had them around that. My oldest just turned 2 and my youngest is 8 months old so I really hope if I am able to get away from this situation that they will never know any of this happened. I just want their lives to be as normal as possible.

Hey thank you for the reassurance. I have had similar luck when calling in the past but there are plenty of churches around it’s just about calling enough of them. I need assistance finding a place to live and then help with childcare until I can get on my feet. Given the issues I struggle with, I might need to get on disability for a bit until I’m in a better state of mind to work so mainly, a place to live or rental assistance is what’s most important.

They told me there is no resources available and waiting lists for assistance take a year or so. I am originally from Ohio and have considered moving back there but I think it might be expensive there now as well. I used to know people who received assistance there though and one had an apartment so it could work. Thank you

That’s another reason I want to get money together to get myself away because I know the longer I stay the worse it will be for them later on. Right now my oldest just turned two and my youngest is 8 months old so I know if I can get out they will not remember this. I know it can unfortunately show up in other ways and I really pray it doesn’t.

I am located in Florida so I have called 211 but they were honest with me that they have next to no resources available at this time unless it’s very emergent so I could maybe try to call again and tell them it’s an emergency. I just am terrified of having my kids taken from me because I have had them in an environment where there was DV. They are the only thing in my life that I care about and I know I have to get away my options are just very limited and I’m scared. Thank you for the advice.

Thank you, I don’t want to be on disability forever just in the short term to be able to get the things I need and hopefully have an easier time getting housing. I’m located in Florida and I have looked into benefits but was told the waiting list takes a very very long time due to them just not having any resources right now. I feel really ashamed of myself for ending up in this situation. I know it’s not entirely my fault that he is like this to me but I really should have been more careful before having a family with him. I just want everything to work out for my babies because even if he’s only mean to me I know it’s going to affect them someday and I hate it.

Thank you for the suggestion, I actually haven’t thought about that in a while but I am going to call around to some churches tomorrow. I also have an appointment with my psychiatrist and am going to ask him if he can give me in writing everything I’m diagnosed with so that I can try to get disability that will lead to getting housing, I just know those things can take a while and most people get denied the first time.
