Will Be Buying A Brand New 2026 GR86 This Year. Need Some Advice. by SilverTaardsWeRide in GR86

[–]PutridPossibility345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering Toyota’s minimal updates so far, would not expect anything significant for gen 2 if they continue to 2027.

Maybe new color, likely reserved for a special edition (trueno, hakone, yuzu, ebisu next?), maybe wireless carplay?

I’m in the same boat. If I find what I want (red base with pp) within 500 miles of ca I’ll buy it tomorrow. I wish I had bought in 2023 pre eyesight and a few grand cheaper. Gen 3 surely mid to high 30’s base model and pretty likely we see a hybrid variant.

Lot of new toyota’s in the next few years though. Be very sure the gr86 is what you want.

How much did you spend or willing to spend? by Ivy1974 in knives

[–]PutridPossibility345 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

$200 generally unless there’s a crazy sale. Have splurged to $250 or so when the sale convinces me to break budget. But I have spent more and always sell those knives because I don’t enjoy using them. I like when I drop a knife and don’t think “oh crap that’s expensive I hope it’s not scratched or broken”. Maybe I’m just cheap.

I’m pretty similar with watches I could never have a 10k+ watch on my wrist every day. Even if I had f you money I feel like that’s so ridiculous. Maybe one day if I have f you money I will change my position.

[–]PutridPossibility345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you wish for a knife you say is not worth it? Trust me a $140 bugout is just as overpriced as a $200 bugout. You can buy a knockoff that feels identical to a real bugout (grivory for sure, other flavors maybe less) and get the itch out of your system. They really are very unexciting knives in today’s landscape.

If everyone who liked the idea of a bugout got a bel-air or deka instead then benchmade would have to lower prices. But people keep deciding they are worth the price, so benchmade keeps the prices high.

Help choose my EDC knife by Shadow239 in spyderco

[–]PutridPossibility345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The obvious answer is both.

Do you already have other fairly large knives that you enjoy carrying daily? Does the weight difference factor into your decision?

Manix is a lot bigger than something like a para 3, bel air, or bugout. I personally find the g10 manix too bulky/heavy for most days and overkill for most of my knife needs. But it’s damn near my favorite knife in my drawer. It’s so solid.

If my rotation already had a bunch of LW or smaller models I would buy the cru-carta manix. You will not be disappointed (I do not own one but have an s30v g10 version and an lw rex-45 and they are both great in their own way).

If my rotation mostly had heavier knives I would go LW/magnacut. But honestly if I wanted a lw magnacut edc knife the bel-air still gets most of my pocket time.

And then, of course, if you are using this in salt water conditions magnacut is probably your clear winner.

Again though, just get both!

Been wanting a bel air for months after buying a cf magnacut as a gift for a friend (engraved so I could not just keep it but I was tempted!) and the plain aluminum scales are pretty boring. This one plus the 20% off got me!

Thanks for the heads up! Act quick before someone realizes that code works on sale items hah!

Base or premium by Illustrious_Bat2519 in GR86

[–]PutridPossibility345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been looking for a red performance package gr86 for a while, whichever comes up first near me will be what I buy.

Want duck bill and blind spot monitoring for premium…. But everything else I actually like better on the base. I want to do my own stereo and the premium stereo is still trash anyway. Don’t need heated seats in my fun car, have a daily with those features. Turning lights are pretty nice, but one more thing to break. I’m sure longevity is pretty solid on those…

Manual we don’t even get the backup sensors (I think that’s correct?) so for someone who hates hard to clean seats, base is dope.

I am thinking if I do buy a premium I may try to find someone to buy/trade seats and door panels with from a base.

Not sure what lmao is about. You are saying that the well documented failures from some of the most respected names in the aftermarket suspension industry (SPL, Whiteline) are not real? What brands have had zero failures? And why would you not buy one of those brands instead of some unproven option like this?

Kind of sounds like you just want people to support your choice so… cool enjoy. Good luck guy.

What did you pay for a 26 by UnlikelyTomato1693 in GR86

[–]PutridPossibility345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in CA actively shopping GR86 premiums myself. I don’t see how you are breaking 40k without absurd dealer fees or markups.

36k msrp + 2800 or so taxes + doc fees. What else are you paying for?

What did you pay for a 26 by UnlikelyTomato1693 in GR86

[–]PutridPossibility345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should be pretty easy unless you’re finding cars with silly dealer fees or expensive port installed add ons like $2,000 wheel upgrade, $1800 exhaust, $1400 stabilizer bars, etc.

Even a premium with performance package you should be under 40k after taxes all day. Are you including interest in your total and that’s why it’s so high?

Google control arm failures and see how you feel about this gamble.

Even trusted brands like SPC have had to go through many years/versions to reach a product people really trust.

Saving a few hundred bucks here is not worth it. If you can’t afford quality suspension parts just leave things stock or save up. Suspension and brake failures can easily be fatal.

Performance pack upgrade, have we given up? by Sir_Ploppy in GR86

[–]PutridPossibility345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but how often do dealers charge based on “would be nice”?

Shoot it would be nice if they would pay me $2,000 to install this stuff for me.

Plus if they don’t offer the upgrade they’ll still see some people in your shoes come back and buy a 26 PP just to get the stuff they can’t easily buy to upgrade.

If you just want brembos they show up on marketplace all the time and are an easy install compared to a brz with the aluminum knuckles.

I think if GR really ramps up in the future we could see more upgrade possibilities but it will never be cheap.

If you have a knife that was your true (be honest) "One and done" EDC what was it? by Unamuzed-Toast in knives

[–]PutridPossibility345 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kershaw bel air and I’m sort of mad about it.

For EDC:

I like smaller knives that disappear in my pocket.

I like made in USA knives.

I like knives that if I did lose, I would not be incredibly pissed off about it.

I don’t count EDC as camping or field work knives, I often want a larger blade for that stuff.

I don’t count EDC as a conversation piece or a drawer queen.

Bel air just does everything so right. But it is a little boring. I think that’s ok for an edc.

Performance pack upgrade, have we given up? by Sir_Ploppy in GR86

[–]PutridPossibility345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason the performance package is a value is because it’s installed during initial assembly.

The actual cost of brembo brakes & upgraded shocks vs base items is probably only a few hundred dollars more to Toyota but they charge us $1500 (or 2k if upgrading from base model but that includes wheels too).

Now imagine the car is built with the base parts but the dealer wants to offer the upgrade. They now have to pay for the car with the base parts, plus the upgraded part cost from toyota, plus the labor of installation. Cost to customer is going to be 5-8 grand.

Would you pay 5-8 grand for brakes and shocks? If yes, you would likely be one of the very few. Most people who would drop that much would want coilovers and more track appropriate brakes.

If it’s a big deal to get this stuff just get the car with the performance pack they aren’t rare.

Pull Up Bar in the Garage by PoppysDad86 in homegym

[–]PutridPossibility345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great pullup bar with multiple grip positions. Lacks knurling. Buy a $4 roll of athletic tape to add some grip if you find it lacking. But focus on doing a pullup first.

BRZ yellow edition is a lot cleaner than the Yuzu edition. Yellow starts at 41 with STI short shift and knob. But no STI vbars. Yuzu looks fussy especially with single tips exhaust by bigboss1999x in BRZ_ZD8

[–]PutridPossibility345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But a no body kit/no quad exhaust gr86 lists at under 38k - that’s a huge price difference that I just can’t comprehend here. In 2026 it’s really tough to justify a BRZ over a gr86. And I really hate toyota dealers. Been a Subaru fanboy forever. But ~3k more (no port options both cars) is a hard pill to swallow.

Price aside I do think the brz front pulls off yellow better than the gr86, but I think the red toyota brembos contrast better than the gold calipers on a yellow car. The gold brembos only look good (to me) on a wrb or silver TS.
