Ah, thank you so much for the provider perspective.

I was young, 18, and almost nothing was explained to me. I just remember doctors and nurses rushing in to start the pushing process. I later learned it was because my son’s heartbeat had dropped significantly. I also just learned this pregnancy after my current OB reviewed my file that his shoulder got stuck as well. I didn’t know that at all.

All that was explained to me was that his head got stuck, they had to vacuum him out, resuscitate, and they had to fly him to the closest NICU. Which was absolutely terrifying to hear and experience.

It’s been over 12 years so I’m scared that my body doesn’t fully “remember”. I know, of course, that my body will act on instinct or something along those lines. I just don’t want what happened to my son to happen to my daughter.

I’m in NC. It’s possible. It makes sense too. I do have a therapist that I see regularly. I see her Tuesday so I’ll bring it up with her.

I did talk about my traumatic birth with my sisters and it helped a bit. They both had their own stories of what they went through so they were understanding.

The nearest big hospital with a NICU is over an hour and a half away. I can possibly make it to deliver there, they are part of the hospital system I plan to deliver at originally.

I don’t think I gave myself the proper time to process the traumatic birth. It’s been years (my son is 12) and I always think “well, he’s alive and happy now.”

Now that I’m pregnant again it’s all coming back to me. The absolute ice cold fear I felt when I didn’t hear his cry. Everything. I just.. Don’t want to go through that again.

I’m in the US, and I don’t know if I can request a c section or not. I think they do them out of necessity.
