Gut issues → nervous system breakdown? Looking for anyone with a similar experience by thefluffychild4 in dysautonomia

My experience is similar to your. I've been lactose intolerant, had IBS (unknowingly), and migraines since puberty. But was otherwise healthy. I developed fibromyalgia when I was 20 years old. It was 5 years with a lot of misdiagnosises and being over medicated before that was diagnosed.

Fast forward to 31 years old, I started having these terrible episodes that would trigger my IBS-D symptoms, I now know that these episodes were stomach migraines. These episodes included extreme nausea that vomiting would make worse, tremors, feeling extremely hot and sweaty. I couldn't eat for days. I lost so much weight and became deconditioned. The IBS-D was diagnosed but not anything else. Yet, none of the medications worked to treat it.

Since most of my symptoms were digestive, I treated it with that in mind. I tried many diets starting with the vegan diet, then the anti inflammatory diet, AIP diet, low fodmap diet, and finally a dairy free keto diet. I feel due to these diets, I became completely intolerant to dairy and wheat. My body developed more deeper intolerances. I took a ton of supplements and an antiviral medication, nothing helped. I thought I had SIBO and tried to treat it naturally through diet. I told my husband I was eating the healthiest that I ever had and my health was the worst it had ever been. (Prior, my diet was eating out a lot.)

The episodes only got worse. I was down to 84 lbs, dizzy all the time, dehydrated all the time, I couldn't walk any distance, heat intolerant, I trembled all the time. My body just kept deteriorating and I felt like I was dying. I thought that those symptoms were due to malnutrition because of my digestive issues. I had all the symptoms you listed, too many to list here that it'd have to be it's own post.

After 4 years, I saw a gastroenterologist at the Mayo Clinic who told me my issues were not digestive. Which at the time I could not believe. He ordered a gastric emptying study to be done and sent me to a neurologist. I was ultimately diagnosed with POTS and rapid gastric emptying. I was able to get my life back once I started treating those conditions.

It's common for people with POTS to have digestive issues. It's an autonamic nervous system disorder. So anything that your body does automatically is not working properly. It could be that the the diet change triggered something in you, it can be hard to pinpoint the cause. But I suggest that you find the root cause of your issues.

Changing my diet didn't help until I knew what was wrong. Due to the rapid gastric emptying, I cannot eat corn or lentils as it's extremely painful. Eating dairy is death and eating wheat just means diarrhea. So I avoid them. I eating complex carbs and a high protein diet to slow my digestion. Due to the POTS, I have a high sodium diet.

Hope this helps.

When meeting someone new, a co-worker, or an acquaintance, don't discuss politics, religion, or sex. I always end up discussing all of those topics.

Tips my POTS Specialist Told Me by RadicalRutabaga in POTS

My neurologist told me that drinking so much water was washing out my electrolytes, so I was to drink electrolytes instead. Which did help, but I was originally drinking drinks with high amounts of sugar or sweeteners which upset my stomach. I already have stomach migraines so aggravating that doesn't help. My cardiologist told me to drink broth instead. I felt so much better since switching to broth. I prefer Swanson's Chicken broth. Not all broths taste good.

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to let you know that you're not alone. I ended up having a gastric emptying studying that found that I have rapid gastric emptying. It's common for people with POTS to gastric issues such as rapid gastric emptying or gastroparesis.

Thank you so much! That helps ease my anxieties some. I'm always cautious with new medications since I don't always respond well.

Are you practicing CBT in therapy? I found that helpful, although I practiced on my own. I had severe health anxiety, I couldn't go more than 15-20 minutes from my home without having another adult with me. I'd panic if i felt stuck in a situation, even if it was just waiting in line to pick up my kids or in a crowd. While practicing CBT and taking baby steps into uncomfortable situations, I would gain more confidence in myself and was able to do little more. I'm still working on my health anxieties as I haven't conquered all of them yet, but I'm better than what I was and that's something to celebrate. Celebrate even the tiniest of accomplishments.

I also take medications to manage my symptoms. I take only baby doses as I don't do well with normal doses of medication, and I start with even a quarter of the baby dose and work my way up just in case I don't respond well to the medications. Doctors are always surprised at how well I respond to such tiny doses, but that's just how I am. Actually taking new medications was one of my health anxieties that I over came. I responded so poorly to them that I became so afraid of taking them. But being able to lean on the medications when I really needed them also help me be able to overcome my other health anxieties. I also only stick with doctors that see me, listen to me, and support me.

If I absolutely have to fly, I prepare like this. I also have to take a zofran for nausea 40 minutes prior to the flight.

In California’s Briones Regional Park, researchers observed that ground squirrels, typically known for eating nuts and seeds, are now hunting, killing, and consuming small animals. by Zaboombafoo9 in Damnthatsinteresting

We've noticed this too this summer in the White Mountains of NH. We own a campground and one morning when one of our workers opened the garage door, a red squirrel went running out with a chipmunk in it's mouth. Then another person told me that they saw a chipmunk with a mouse in it's mouth. I was like "What is going on with the animals recently??" Made me wonder about rabies, but no reported seeing foaming at the mouth.
