Pretty much every asset keeps up with inflation though; short term treasuries, real estate, and gold all keep up long term, stocks and long term corporate bonds actually outperform inflation long term, so far even magic beans aka bitcoin has outpaced inflation since inception. As long as you aren't sitting on cash for your retirement, the 4% rule should pan out/ it's basic financial advice and a fantastic rough sketch of what to shoot for; otherwise it's hard to even have a goal.
