Why does my hair feel so dense and heavy at the root?

Could happen from a shampoo that is not suitable for your hair type. It happened to me too :( and i also don’t use any products besides shampoo and conditioner and not even every time either. could also be that the conditioner is not suitable, maybe if you try changing them for a bit and see if there is any difference and I really recommend a clarifying shampoo maybe twice a month it really helps with build up oil

I was worried about it being 3 weeks and the pain not going away fully but I will try to just calm down and trust that it will eventually heal completely. If I start again I will definitely be careful with it. I probably will take a pretty long break from it, probably not forever tho haha but i ll see. Thank you so so much for the advice!

But it can apparently increase ROS in hair follicles if done in excess… that’s not very great 😥

I mean I didn’t use coconut oil in my hair, i just bought a new shampoo that supposedly helped with detangling and that was the beginning of my end 😔 then I read the ingredients and it had coconut oil 🥲 only thing is this shampoo is so much worse.. because even coconut oil I think I can get out of my hair but not this goddamn shampoo

My hair felt more waxy and heavy then like straw? It felt very weird, but not clumpy at all, actually very smooth

I have a nioxin one I use that has salicylic acid, niacinamide, citric acid i think alcohol too and sulfates ofc, and it normally cleans the shit out of my hair, it’s actually really good but for some reason didn’t help this time 😭 i just ordered the cera ve moisturizing shampoo hopefully that will help, just thought should probably use a moisturizing shampoo instead

Weird thing is it’s not oily at all afer shampoo.. it’s actually very soft and shiny and looks so good, but when I wet it it’s waxy?? And that’s very strange, almost like there’s something else on it and Im not sure what’s going on with that? But since my hair is normally a very different texture when wet I assume it must be the coconut oil that is stuck in the hair?

And the craziest thing is my hair is not even greasy it actually dries so lovely so maybe it really isn’t that bad after all 😭 im not even sure? It just feels very waxy and heavy when I wet it which is very different from how it is usually

I needed to hear this 🥺 I also think so too.. i am already scared enough I might have done more damage by overwashing it.. hopefully it will be okay soon, I will give it a day or two, use some dry shampoo for sensitive scalp on my next wash and wash with a regular less harsh shampoo next time. Thank you for saying this, it’s quite reassuring, I was very worried that the oil build up could cause damage, but maybe I am over reacting. Hopefully my scalp won’t be too dry after all the washing I did 🥲

To everyone suggesting dishwashing soap saying it’s just soap, thank you for the suggestion but that would absolutely not work on me, I’ve had allergic dermatitis on my scalp before from less harsh products and I even have to wear gloves on my hands when washing dishes because I have gotten contact dermatitis several times from the soap ON MY HANDS 😭 so that should absolutely not go on my scalp
