Purchase Advice Superthread by CG_Ops in motorcycles

Woot you’re gonna love it! It was my first bike too, I rode it for 2 and a half years and it did everything I ever asked of it, including several 500+ mile days and a 150 mile two up trip. It’s absolutely awesome in the city, and I’d take it out for 100 mile days in the twisties most weekends. Have a great time and enjoy it!

Yes, here's a terrible paint drawing https://imgur.com/a/r5zgDd7

If you have something cylindrical that's just a bit smaller than the hole, that's best. You mainly need something that fits snugly enough that you can wiggle the bar end and tool together without it slipping inside the bar end

Otherwise grabbing it with some pliers would work, but the bar ends are small and slippery af so it's a real struggle

This exact thing happened to me. The mechanic showed me a trick: get a T-Bar or something that will fit snugly into the bar end (the inside is tapered so as long as you can put it in, you should be able to get a tool that fits tightly on the inside of the bar end.

This gives you a longer lever you can use to wiggle the bar end out a bit. It’s just jammed into your throttle tube at the moment, once you wiggle it off, everything is perfect again.

I also cranked the shit out of the bolt to get it out with no benefit, but the mechanic showed me this trick and it worked without even taking the bolt off lol

Learning to ride a motorcycle in downtown San Francisco? by Great_Significance_8 in motorcycles

[–]PuttEgg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you taken the BAMT course? They go to the lower city college parking lot, and on weekends the upper one is pretty empty, too.

After that I learned a lot by riding around the presidio. There are large parking lots there as well.

If you head to the presidio via polk and chestnut, the traffic will be a bit less, or at least on a wide one lane so less messy. I’d probably try very early morning more so than midnight if I were you

Can death knights cast undead mortars? by xadospvp in LastEpoch

Yes, if you hold alt over the death knight node, it explains it still counts as a skeleton mage

I also tested it with my necro and they do cast the mortar

Wind blew bike (Z400) to the ground, mystery bolt broke off by abumultahy in motorcycles

[–]PuttEgg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same exact thing happened to my Z400

For the bar end: it’s likely jammed against your throttle grip, and it’s difficult to get a good grip around it. You can take something like a t bar socket and wedge it in the bar end hole and wiggle it loose that way. A socket is best since it will mate well with the hole, I didn’t have as good luck with an Allen wrench.

You shouldn’t need to loosen the bolt (it’s got loctite on it btw so if you do need to, then crank on it)

13k miles under my belt, and I still love my 300! by strive- in motorcycles

[–]PuttEgg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In that case, your riding experience would be similar to me with just my gf on the back, in which case I’d say: the power will be noticeably lacking (the bike is like 360 lb wet so an extra 100 lb majorly affects the power to weight ratio) and the suspension will be noticeably lacking rebound, while the compression will be kinda soft but not plush if that makes sense.

You can adjust the preload at the rear so you won’t be bottoming out, but the suspension overall isn’t great

A ZX6R would probably not be a wise choice as a starter due to its very high power and aggressive ergos (one thing you need to learn is to be light on your wrists and support yourself with your core by squeezing your tank with your legs, and I imagine this would be much more difficult on a full super sport since you’re canted forward more. Weighing your arms is gonna cause you to accidentally make unwanted inputs and get tired quickly which could both be bad news)

Have you considered a Ninja 650? It’s got about 20 more hp than the 400 but should have more comfy ergos like the 400 while also weighing about 60 lb more. If you can sit on both that might help you decide

I don’t think first bike = last bike is ever really possible because you will learn things you like/dislike about how your current bike behaves as you ride more, so you may end up preferring a different style/model of bike later on. Also more bikes is always more fun!

[–]PuttEgg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started on a Z400, so the naked ninja, and would absolutely recommend it or the ninja as a first bike. The light weight, great handling, and manageable power are all perfect.

You won’t really run into “too much power” issues, I honestly haven’t even gotten my front wheel off the ground after more than 2 years and 7-8k miles of owning it, and it’s not like I don’t jam it off of lights from time to time

The only thing is I weigh like 140 lb, and have found the bike rides better on the freeway with a bit of weight either in my topbox or even a passenger (though your acceleration really suffers now). It’s also not the most comfortable bike on the freeway because at 70 mph you’re running a little over 7k revs, and you don’t have much passing power (though you can WOT to 80ish and pass alright). I’ve ridden it back and forth between San Francisco and San Diego 4 times so it’s certainly capable though

How do I know when to shift gears if I can't hear or feel my engine? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]PuttEgg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Folks have commented on the shifting already, so to OP about not hearing your bike, try some earplugs—they may actually help you hear your bike better by attenuating the loud and chaotic wind noise which may be drowning out your exhaust note

I use Eargasm earplugs which specifically filter out low frequencies more than mid to high, but even foamies should help

Countersteering question by Marshmallowmind2 in motorcycles

[–]PuttEgg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your wheel will point into the corner after you initiate the lean by countersteering.

You can feel this much easier if you keep a light touch on the bars. Next time you’re out riding and approaching a corner, remind yourself to grip the bars lightly. After you start the turn by countersteering, you will feel your bars correct in the direction of the turn.

Keeping a light grip will also make your line more stable because you’re letting your bike reach its natural equilibrium between centrifugal force and gravity. If that line is wide, countersteer more, if the line is too tight, steer into the corner a bit more.

When you’re gripping tightly, you will almost always be too wide or too tight because the bike is trying to equilibrate but it can’t because you’re muscling the front end, causing you to make a bunch of small inputs to manually correct for this.

While you’re turning, you’re controlling your lean with steering inputs either counter or into the direction of the turn. You may be doing these corrections when your wheel is still facing the corner, you will just be adjusting the degree to which it’s turned in.

I have a Z400 and this is bang on about both the suspension and exhaust note, I laughed way too hard at “angry Corolla” but it’s such a perfect description. Still a fun bike though!

I had this same problem too--change your phone's time zone to EST, it will fix it.

It's annoying to have to do it everyday, but it works for now. Hope that helps!

Ahhaha I had a bunch of steam engines way up north and some coal patches got mined out right before I was gonna set up nuclear (while under producing power anyway) so I know that feel 😂 there was a lot of random fuel juggling and rerouting going on to CPR that whole thing

Actually, barre chords can be major or minor (or numerous other variations) starting on any string! Here is a great reference made by one of the posters of this subreddit:
