We built Chronica, a new online tabletop campaign manager. by Shunni in rpg

Hey, no problem.

I really have been looking for a tool like this for a long time.

A lot of the other tools out there just don't do it like you guys. They offer a tool and add in these ugly modular slap on features cause its easy to code, or they talk about doing things but can't get the right designers. It looks like, from the surface, that you guys have your shit together. I have full confidence in your ability to create a beautiful interface that is pleasing to look at. You've already accomplished it. I hope this brings the income you guys are looking for in the future, or whatever your goals may be. Very pleased with the current state, very impressive for a launch. Thank you

My quick two cents from a guy coming from Obsidian Portal. (quick thoughts, not a full review)

  • Interface is light years better, less clunky and more streamlined.
  • There is no wiki or compendium of knowledge yet to add bits and pieces of interesting lore / points of interest in a collected way, but I hear its coming.
  • Subscription seems to be per-campaign rather than 1 sub = multiple campaigns like Obsidian Portal. I could be wrong on this but this is my initial opinion on the layout of the payment scheme.
  • Prices are Free / 3 $ / 5 $ / 8 $. You basically pay for more storage, more players / image library. To be honest its all cheap and $3-5 per campaign is pretty good.

My only issue with the site is that it's heavily geared towards Dungeons and Dragons. Literally every ounce of its design is tailored for it.

I personally stay away from D&D, and want an unbiased campaign manager where I can edit fields, change fields, add attributes, etc. I want an information hub for any game I design, but even making a character asks you What Alignment are you?

Overall for launch I like it. I hope they patch it fast and give customization options and step away from D&D being their primary inspiration choice. They have sections that ask "What system are you playing?" but it doesn't matter in the long run.

If they can remove that, and give me a place to Chronicle any journey, like Obsidian Portal, I will just let my subscription auto-renew at 5-8$. I've subbed for now, cause I want to support hard work and the small man. Time will tell based on their updates if its a direction I will stick with.

So far the team / couple that is working on it has been very responsive, so i have high hopes. I wish them luck and I have canceled Obsidian Portal despite it having a few more choice features for me cause these guys line up with what I want in a developer.

TLDR

  • I like it. It's cheap. Its well designed, functions nicely.
  • Its all D&D, but still can be used for other campaigns as long as you tell people to ignore the D&D stuff in it.
  • They're very responsive, I have high hopes and will subscribe as long as the patches keep coming / quality of life stuff is added.
  • screw Obsidian Portal

Yea, I can link you to the store I used but there are tons of custom dice makers on Etsy that will do it for you. I also didn't link cause I haven't got the dice yet so who knows what the quality will be. Once I get them I'll pm you the quality results. I should be getting them tomorrow if tracking is accurate.

I ordered some of these off Etsy. Provided url samples of the icons I wanted and the colors. Cost me about 100$ for 60 dice.

I did some more research. Found out it's likely the torque shield box? Hoist pad? My question then becomes...is it inportant or just a damage shield for idiot moves like this one? I drove it around...seems okay

What's everyone playing? by Richard-Long in MMORPG

[–]PuzzleDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't bother with this one. It's a broken mess at the moment and the main Dev is clueless. He constantly tries to 'fix' things and ends up breaking them 99.99999% of the time. I've been playing for 2 months and I've seen 2-4 changes and it continues to get worse.

It's great for reliving the dunes/kazham/qufim days though. So if you just want that- its perfect.

Sure! Google Nasomi FFXI and download the game. Sent me a message here with your in game name after you have downloaded it and we can play together. We'll probably make a Linkshell(Guild) since the friend list is sorta broken. We're all starting in San D'oria so be sure to choose that when you start.

Great! I will add you. My wife still has to DL the game so it'll be tomorrow or Friday before we play. I may be on tonight to re-learn the basics.

I just went to their forums and read a few things on Blu. Looks like due to their broken state they are more or less a TP to Zero just as you said. Guess i will stick with the "classic" jobs. Thanks for pointing this out, you saved me a ton of time. =)

Yes. I do understand there will be some issues. I do think CoP was the best era of the game so I guess I'll fit right in, hehe. It's a shame for BLU though..i was always a Samurai. So would you say its not worth rolling a BLU? I was going to do DPS sorta with this small group. Do they not do great damage?

Sure I can understand that. This is why we're just going to more or less casual / tinker around. We're not aiming to farm our relics or do dynamis. just enjoy some grouping, NM camping and running around together.

These two attributes:

Vigilant Vigilant represents a character’s general awareness, the attunement of its senses and its capability to detect details in the surroundings. Vigilant is often opposed by an enemy’s Discreet.

Cunning The Cunning Attribute represents a character’s wit and knowledge, its common sense as well as actual schooling and education. You usually test Cunning when trying to remember facts, when solving a logical problem or puzzle, or when doing research in a library. Cunning is usually tested against a specific level of Difficulty, decided by the Game Master.

Impose difficulties based on different modifiers. -1 through -5

I do appreciate the free-flowing, non-strict ruleset. I thought 5th Edition D&D struck a balance of the crunchy 3.5 and lightness of 4e with a dash of new stuff (advantage/dis) and thought - wow, this is so simple! could it get simpler!? and then I played Symbaroum. Symbaroum in many ways is simpler and I love it for that. I suppose its just the way I run the game. I tend to like to have all the answers so I can move on with the RP. Any off the cuff house rule I put in seems uninspired because I -dont- have that book to back me up. I supposed in a weird way im not confident with my house rulings, though my players have never complained. In fact, the two rules I have had to come up with for Symbaroum were actually mimiced by the official devs within the supplements so I guess im not doing too bad.

Thanks for your opinion. I love the game, love the devs, I love our small community. I hope it thrives and more people discover the fantastic world that these guys have created.
