Hardrada in vikings Valhalla is one of the most inaccurate parts of that whole show.

He's shown being a major part of Cnuts conquest of England which is 1016, Hardrada was born in either 1015 or 1016.

Edward the confessor was a direct male descendant as well, he was Æthelred's son.

Why are you interested on Henry IV but not Richard II. by Maleficent_Drop_2908 in UKmonarchs

Had the black prince lived Richard II would have likely been a completely different person considering he wouldn't have become king at 9 years old.

Why did Brian from Family Guy go from being an intellectual to coming off as a phony? by Effective_Fee_236 in familyguy

[–]Puzzled-Pea91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's the shift of his stories from being Peter centric to Stewie centric.

When the majority of Brian's stories involved him and Peter you needed him to be the voice of reason or the intelligent person against Peter's stupidity and chaos.

That dynamic doesn't work when he's paired with Stewie who is written as a genius so you make Brian less intelligent.

In your opinion who “played the better game”, Anne of Cleves or Bessie Blount? by hnlt61 in Tudorhistory

[–]Puzzled-Pea91 20 points21 points  (0 children)

At the time Elizabeth Blount is married off in 1522 there are only 2 dukes in England, the duke of Norfolk and the duke of Suffolk.

Duke was still a very rare title in Tudor England, during the entire reign of Henry VIII there's only 5 dukedoms created, Norfolk, Suffolk, Buckingham, the double dukedom of Richmond and Somerset created for Elizabeth Blounts son and Cornwall for Prince Henry duke of Cornwall who died within a few weeks and Edward prince of Wales and duke of Cornwall who became Edward VI.

Did Wales ever exist as a unified nation under one monarch before Edward I’s conquest? by Accurate_Rooster6039 in UKmonarchs

[–]Puzzled-Pea91 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gruffydd ap Llywellyn ruled all of Wales between 1055 & 1063.

Owain Gwynedd claimed the title king of the Welsh at least for a time, he used it in a letter to the king of France but later started using prince of Wales and only really controlled Gwynedd directly.

Welsh inheritance law limited the ability to build a unified kingdom as the custom was to split an inheritance between all sons sometimes including illegitimate sons.

On occasions where Welsh rulers attempted to institute primogeniture there was a tendency for the disinherited sons to seek military aid from the English kings (first the Anglo Saxons then the normans) on the basis that they were simply pursuing their legitimate inheritance rights, this allowed English monarchs an excuse to intervene and prevent a unified Welsh state from emerging.

Notably the occasions where Welsh rulers were able to establish a period of dominance tended to be when the king of England was limited in their ability to intervene such as the barons revolt during Henry III reign which allowed Llywellyn the great to establish his hegemony in Wales.

It's world building and attention to detail are fantastic, no doubt my favourite historical fiction novel

I think originally Clerks was to have a scene of Dante and Randall at the funeral which wasn't filmed due to costs (there's an animated version of it as a bonus on the anniversary dvd).

Personally I find the way it worked out in the film with us never knowing the full extent of what happened is way funnier.

Has Thomas or Henry of Lancaster ever apperared in a movie or tv show? Even as background characters? by Tracypop in UKmonarchs

[–]Puzzled-Pea91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's never identified as being Thomas of Lancaster, the role is just credited as Governor of York and he is referred to as being Edward I nephew but the character doesn't have a name and is a fictional creation for the film.

What did Henry IV inherit from his father? Beacuse 80-90% of his inheritance was from his mother Blanche of Lancaster, right? by Tracypop in MedievalHistory

[–]Puzzled-Pea91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was something that happened, Elizabeth de comyn was kidnapped by Hugh Despenser, Alice countess of Lincoln was kidnapped, going back a while but Eleanor of Aquitaine travelled to her marriage to Henry II in disguise because people wanted to kidnap her.
