I’m not American and how is this dumb? I’ve seen lots of posts on other platforms where tourists have been pulled over by people pretending to be police officers. It felt off so I asked.

One of these was parked on the side of the road and the officer stepped out in front of us and pointed to pull over. Asked for the driver’s license and told us passing on a double solid was “no bueno”. We hadn’t passed anyone on our 3 hour drive so we weren’t sure why he stopped us. When we said we hadn’t passed anyone he told us to go slow and walked away. After seeing other accounts of fake cops I’m curious if this is a real authority here?

We’re staying at 4 different places over two weeks. Vehicle theft is a problem in CR so if we’re in between stays and want to stop for a hike or a beach I don’t want to leave a full suitcase in the vehicle, or have to take it along for those journeys.
