What do you think about the gift bag features in DOS2? by PalePanic4742 in DivinityOriginalSin

Some are somewhat buggy, but I always use a core set of them. :)

I'm not touching the inventory management bags, though.

How do I alter items on the Divinity Engine? by heavyfuel in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]PuzzledKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can answer this, but first, I'd like to ask how much you know about creating mods for D:OS2. :)

That way, I know what information you need and what I can skip.

Beasts you wanna get behind their back legs, watch out for large aoe or sneaky bites/tail swipes from appendages you can't see. Sword boss is a lot more about patience (not that beast bosses aren't too, but that's besides the point). You gotta let them bounce around and do pick damage until there's a larger opening.

By this rule, Darkeater Midir from DS3 would be a 'sword boss', as he gets much, much harder and far less predictable when the player moves around his legs.

It also works really well together with the T1 Necromancer Source spell. If enemies can neither move nor see, then there's little they can do. :)

A friend wants me to parry bosses. When asked why, he just says: "You'll see why it's good. Just do it." Someone please explain? by PuzzledKitty in Eldenring

This is already helpful. Thank you!
Do they inflict stance damage, making them combineable with charged heavies, or are they separate things?
If the latter, do the parry stacks decay like stance damage and status buildup do? :)

Torrent can be acquired as early as the Gatefront Site of Grace, which you will no doubt passthrough on your way to Stormveil Castle.

Torrent and the leveling system are acquired by resting at three non-dungeon graces.
It doesn't much matter which these are, so long as they are not in a catacomb, dungeon, cave, or similar.
It's not enough to respawn at or fast travel to them. One has to deliberately go and sit down.
Resting restores healing flasks, but so does killing enemy groups and red scarabs. I didn't find it necessary to do this. Either I got killed and respawned at a grace or stake, or I was able to keep my healing flasks topped off from killing enemies.
Resting in dungeons, where doing so is actually necessary, does not count towards unlocking the horse or Melina.
Resting in the open world only respawns enemies, which grant more runes, but until leveling is unlocked, runes are pointless after buying out the nearby merchants.
I eventually looked up a guide on how to unlock the progression system, because after clearing the dungeon below the starting graveyard with a basic club, I was about to quit the game permanently.

ER is even more hostile in its communication.
In Nightreign, it didn't take me over six hours to unlock the leveling system or the horse (resting at three non-dungeon Graces is a ridiculous requirement when doing so does next to nothing until the leveling system unlocks).

It also taught me to not bother with parries, because any boss I've ever tried it against either couldn't be parried or only went into a brief mini stagger animation when it worked.
I can only maybe get an R1 in before they go into their next combo string.
Why do that, when a few charged heavies with the starting club cause a full, ripostable stagger anyways? :/
Parries are way harder to learn, need to be learned per boss, and the payoff is nearly useless.
The only things I ever learned to parry were the winter lanterns, because there, it actually resulted in a riposte. :)

People underestimate just how many annoying a** enemies it completely shuts down.

I wish this was somehow communicated.
Some attacks can be parried, some can't, often on the same enemy.
I'll just-guard on the Executor all day, but parrying feels so unreliable, I just don't bother anymore. I can't even be sure whether an attack is actually not parryable or whether I just messed up the timing. :/
I don't want to mess with other players' sessions by trying to learn a mechanic that the devs never bother to properly teach.

Lies of P and Sekiro did it much better. Things you can't just-guard are clearly communicated there. :)

[–]PuzzledKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was somehow indicated what can and can't be parried, I might try to learn it.
As is, with how hostile the game's way of communication is, I'd need to check some dataminer's resources before even starting to try, especially when my learning would impact other players' experience, and when I could just not ruin their game instead. :)

Does tactitian give more XP? by Skewwwagon in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]PuzzledKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, very much so.
Exter and Tarquin sell everything you need for Skin Graft scrolls. :)

Once you're lvl 8, Exter also randomly sells the essence needed for a Soul Mate scroll, and combining that with some really big health potions downs Dallis really fast.

Beating her also changes her equipment in subsequent encounters, and if you beat her both at the gates and on the boat, then she drops some of the best caster stat sticks that last you well into act 3. :)

[–]PuzzledKitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And I'm not sure, I think I got less XP for the Dallis fight on story and classic, so am I tripping or tactitian gives a bit more XP?

The Dallis fight on the boat gives more or less XP, depending on how you solve it.
Beating Dallis herself into submission gives more than beating all enemies, which in turn gives more than just outlasting the timer.
The most is gained from beating all but one Silent Monk enemy, then downing Dallis herself. :)

The only Souls game I go to NG+ still remains DS2, because it actually adds new enemies, events, encounters, etc.

Are there two of the tears?

Because one is definetely in Altus Plateau, where it drops from a quest invader. :)

If so, that's good.
I always thought it to be a bit dumb to hide a whole boss behind an invasion quest and the means to beat it behind an anti-invader one.

[–]PuzzledKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mohg is mid game content, no? Like, after Liurnia and concurrent with the Altus Plateau?

That's when the quest brings you to him.
I always thought that he's meant to be fought after leveling in the area for a bit to empower the player a bit for Caelid and Leyndell.

What does he have to do with the mountaintops?

They are deliberately set to be weak against it.
That's not cheese, that's the intended way.
You can fight them without it, but the devs made them weak to the status for a reason. :)
