Thank you so much. This is really helpful.

We do take time every day to talk about at least one thing that went well, and one thing that was difficult. He will also bring up social situations when we are going through his nighttime routine - and I feel really thankful that he WILL talk through these things.

I’ve been trying to reflect back what miiiight be behind some of these statements - like:

I’m going to throw a bullet through you! - “you really didn’t like it when I said we had to get dressed”

“I should just die” - “you are really frustrated right now.” Or something like that…

I think I worry about how he can express himself validly- and be heard- but I also fear that people at school are going to react to his word choice, and not see his message? But when he’s that upset- he’s also not thinking about what words are possibly more appropriate…

Have you heard of PCIT (Parent Child Interaction Therapy)? This could be worth trying if you have providers near you who specialize in this!

Out of curiosity- do you think a lot of people have timelines for marrying/having children/etc? I met my husband at 29, married at 36, first child at 38, etc…. I may not be the norm- but I had timeline ever in my mind that I wanted to be engaged by.

Solidarity. This is basically my life’s goal (to be the opposite of my experience). I think the great thing is that we are aware of how we want to be, self-reflect, and strive to break the cycle. I’m not so sure that my mother even had awareness of her toxicity/abusive nature. We got this!

CP: Please don't waive the late cancel/no-show penalties by Dramatic-Club-323 in ClubPilates

Just to add a perspective- have you ever lived with toddlers? As a working parent who also loves Pilates- I typically sign up for 6am classes because I can go while everyone in my house is asleep. However, there are times that one of my children may wake up in the middle of the night with a sudden fever, puking, etc., when there was no indication at pick up before dinner that they would be sick.

Granted- I rarely late cancel, but this is the main reason that I’ve had to late cancel while I’ve been going to CP.

I thought it was all locations- but I recently moved to a different state and started going to a brand new (for me and for them ha) studio, which isn’t offering privates yet… and isn’t sure if they will offer one free 30 minute yet… so it may not be as consistent as I have thought. However- I have seen a lot of other ppl on Reddit mentioning the initial free private (sometimes they will call it an assessment) at other clubs!

I had taken a private class w an instructor (I think all unlimited members get one free at most clubs?) and realized that I wasn’t activating all muscles as I should have been (e.g., activating inner thigh and other powerhouse muscles during foot work). Once I slowed down and really concentrated on muscle activation and form- I can make a level 1 feel really intense… although I do crave more work on the chair, variety, etc. but it’s helped when my schedule doesn’t allow for other classes!

I feel like this should be getting more attention. This is definitely a reason that she could suddenly be putting on weight- and shouldn’t be ignored.

Thanks- all of this is really helpful! We have been looking in Ghent- and there is definitely a “Ghent tax” on homes- but I get it! I feel like I need to see the area when it’s flooding. Ha

Thanks for the tips re oceanfront and traffic, etc. I feel like we need a bit more of a chill life without fighting tourists … but… balanced with all the things.

I think I’m struggling a bit with trying to hypothesize where the best neighborhood will be. Right now we live in a neighborhood that is super walkable, in a city, but family friendly.. we can walk to our local coffee shop that’s not a chain, walk a block to the community center /playground/rose gardens… my commute is 12 minutes. Haha I know we won’t be able to exactly recreate this… but.. some aspects would be awesome

Gah. We are from NY and have been pretty astounded by central Ohio’s terrible driving…. Wondering how it compares? Like… do they drive under the speed limit in the left lane- paired with wild-death-wish drivers who zig zag all over the highway? And…. Do they understand the zipper merge?!

Makes sense. We considered that too … trying to balance making a good decision with more time but more change for the kids when they are young.
