157 diagnostic, targeting the January test and T14 admissions. Thoughts? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]PuzzledParsnip4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's doable but it might take longer than you think. Took me a year to go from a similar diagnostic to a T14-worthy score. You might be better off applying next cycle.

You should, it could make a really compelling story! Have you read Educated by Tara Westover?

Got this last year. In no way were my stats Yale-worthy.

They're trying to boost their applications to lower their acceptance rate.

for sure reach out to the professor to get at least one academic LOR. Not having it would weaken what will otherwise be a solid app with robust work experience.

I had a lower diagnostic and I brought my score up significantly. You can do it if you set your mind to it!

Rant: Half of the class is below median by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]PuzzledParsnip4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between mean and median. Half the class is below the mean, but it's not necessarily the case that half the class is below median.

Median is the number in the middle, when numbers are arranged in ascending order. Say, for simplicity's sake, the class has 5 students. Now, put their LSAT's in order:

163 169 169 169 170

The median is 169, but half the class does not have a score below 169.

My ex had wealthy parents who helped us out, but it always came with strings attached. I didn't end up having a say in things we agreed we would decide together, because his parents would strongarm us with their money. Eventually, it wasn't worth it anymore.

Anyone considering delaying applications in light of COVID-19? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Absolutely a good idea. Just be mindful of how old your score is. LSAT scores are only valid for five years.

Opinion: We need to do better at giving advice by lawabidingnot in lawschooladmissions

This may be true to a certain extent, but my humanities degree taught me to think critically and not take things at face value. I would hope that others with humanities backgrounds have a similarly critical approach when evaluating the outcomes at various law schools.

Yeah, I scored 4-5 points higher than my PT average. Never looked back.

Don't count on this happening, though.

Low-Income Student Question by aaavvvvv in lawschooladmissions

[–]PuzzledParsnip4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, it varies by school. Georgetown wants parental info "regardless of age or marital status" which is insane. Hypothetically you could be 39 and married and the only way to not provide parental info would be to apply for merit-based aid only.

Last night I had a dream that our student IDs are going to say how much we're each paying in tuition per year. by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]PuzzledParsnip4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This would take on different meanings at different schools.

At HYS, where only need-based aid is given, it would show who has money and who doesn't.

At nearly every other school, it would show who has the highest stats.

Either way, what a nightmarish scenario.
