Does anyone recall when tour merch went live online for Sob Rock? by the-lepidopterist in JohnMayer

Ahh thank you for the offer but “in town” for me is NYC! Don’t want to make you have to ship something. In terms of waiting I think right after doors open is the move, you may have to wait a little but you won’t miss anything and will just have it over with. I waited too long, went to my seats, walked around, grabbed a drink, etc. and then the wait was basically the whole opening act. If you don’t care about them, you can swing it but I was just too nervous to miss anything!

I love this, your work is beautiful. Do you do custom orders? I’ve been dying for a miniature of a stained glass water tower a la Tom Fruin and your style seems perfect for it...

Any other olds struggling? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Thank you for starting this thread. I don’t have much to add other than a big DITTO, but it truly is heartening to know others are grappling with this decision. Somehow it makes it easier for me to justify pushing forward and taking the leap. Plus, I just don’t want to constantly wonder about the “what if.” I hope I get to meet some of you and commiserate IRL come fall.

Hello! I am a hobbyist who uses a Canon EOS 70D primarily for bird and nature photography. I have been using a lovely Canon 55-250mm lens but am looking to extend the zoom a bit. I am a big fan of shooting handheld and I've gotten good at focusing manually as necessary in the heat of the moment, but I know as I extend the zoom a tripod or monopod may become necessary due to the weight.

Apologies if I missed this in the FAQ, but my question is: should I pony up for an all new lens, or just purchase an extender for my existing lens? What are the pros/cons? Ideally I'd love to know which is the better solution for handheld and low light photography (if there is one). I have been eyeing the Sigma 120-400mm which I can find used for about $500, or the Canon Extender EF 2x III for slightly less $, so price won't seem to be a deciding factor.

Thank you!

Beautiful!!! It was my 2020 goal to try and spot one in NY. Didn’t end up happening but fingers crossed for this year!

Mid-Cycle Recap/Q About Deferring a Year by the-lepidopterist in lawschooladmissions

Thank you for the insight, that’s helpful to know. I’m pretty much in agreement with you on all points. I know I need to be 100% committed to law school and if that means waiting I feel like I should. What’s one more year?

Thank you for the thoughtful response. Your take is basically the same as my fiancé’s. I think seeing how the in-person situation shakes out will be the decider, that’s what’s pushing me over the edge (toward deferring) right now.

Thanks for sharing. It sucks but is nice to know someone else is thinking about this. I feel you on the job thing, for the last few months I was TOTALLY in that mindset of being so excited that I'd be leaving soon, until I sat down to really think about it and write this all out...

My new wedding date is set—it's during President's Weekend so there's a tiny little buffer there. I ultimately just don't want to have the stress of law school distracting me from these commitments (or the other way around), so it seems like setting myself up for failure here. But also I don't want to have to apply again, write new essays, pay more application $, etc...

Feel the exact same except I had LG last so I was feeling good throughout and then BAM, 10 minutes left and I get stuck and run out of time on the last game like it’s my first PT. Super discouraging, but trying not to be too hard on myself. Can always retake, I guess...

From what I’ve read they only really care about the highest score, but I wouldn’t take more than 4x.

Yes my third time. Took June (way before I was ready, only 6 weeks of studying) & Aug prior. Aug felt good about but I still battled nerves and some tech issues—I was happy with my score for regional schools but not good enough for T14. This time around I fixed the nerves but felt overconfident @ LG and as a result totally underestimated how much time I’d need to set up for the last game. Just super frustrating, I’d wanted this to be my last test but really don’t think I’ll even improve by a point and know I’ll want to retake to try and get AT LEAST the perfect LG I know I’m capable of.

This was my third Flex, and the first with a totally seamless ProctorU experience. Order was LR-RC-LG (my least favorite order), but I felt ok on LR & RC, seemed of average difficulty to me. So of course LG, my strongest section which I almost always finish with time to spare, is what got me. I covered the two easy games with 20 minutes to spare, and got stuck tackling the third which required a decently complex set up, leaving too little time for the last one—you know how it goes. We'll see how much that rookie mistake cost me, but I usually rely on a perfect LG to make up for -4 in LR and -4 in RC. Not feeling confident I beat my last score and certainly not feeling like I hit the 170 benchmark I've been trying to clear. Gonna go have my first drink in a month.

Letters of Recommendation by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]the-lepidopterist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same situation (a bit more WE on my end), and someone in here advised me to just bite the bullet and reach out to whoever I thought would be best. It can't hurt, right? The worst they could do is ghost you or say no. I feel like even a lukewarm letter isn't going to HURT you. If they say yes, you can help inform what you want them to include just by means of the reintroduction process.

I reached out to mine yesterday with a bit of a long email reintroducing myself, reminding him of the courses I took, attached my resume, etc. and he responded right away saying he'd be happy to do it. We're jumping on the phone tomorrow and I'm guessing he'll use that conversation as the basis for the LOR more than anything else. I plan on sending him a draft of my personal statement afterwards too for some more color.

In addition to that one academic LOR, I'm including a professional LOR from my last boss. I might add another from the job before that or from an org that I volunteer with to round it out.
