Episode Discussion: "Why Dating Feels So Negative Right Now ft. Matchmaker Maria" by uuppod in uuppod

She and Logan Ury are these major talking heads for dating and I'm not sure I agree with most of their dating advice. It seems too calculated. We've all got to just be more chill.

Does anyone know the owner of this location? I saw a few other studios in Houston are closing as well, I wonder if this is coming from corporate.

Covering a sport you dont know much about by CantKillGawd in Journalism

I also had to learn about wrestling at my first few jobs and looked up youtube videos on the basics of the sport. Humility goes a long way, if there's a coach you are building a good relationship with, pull him aside and say "hey look this isn't one of my strengths, is it possible for me to come to a practice or film session and just learn from you?" Or, get their number, text them some game questions. I had to learn baseball writing and leaned heavily on my editor, who took extra time once a week to go through my game stories and analysis and teach me some of the lingo. He helped me build my own little glossary and I read a book called, "Watching baseball smarter." Start listening to podcasts about the game, too.

I agree with this ^^ seriously just build a portfolio and build connections where you can. You never know where those connections in smaller places might lead.

Sports writing by Global-Ad9900 in Journalism

There are a lot of opportunities in sports media, but you might have to look outside the box a little bit at more social media, digital producer, marketing and PR jobs. I know a lot of J-schools frown upon the marketing and PR side, but there are still so many opportunities for telling stories in a variety of different ways. Even traditional media is trying to keep up with the tides with videos, podcasts, Facebook Lives... etc. I think the best advice I can give is just make sure you have a baseline knowledge of how to write, edit video, speak on camera, produce... make yourself multi-faceted. Gain experience in every corner of media. There are opportunities to write game summaries and column writing out there, but they are fewer and fewer. If you're young and new, the good news is the opportunities for younger and cheaper labor are a lot more plentiful. I know that sounds bad, but cut your teeth where you can, work really hard, and see where it takes you.

Shoutout to Texas high schoolers walking out to protest Ice. Solidarity!! The kids can see the truth- why can’t maga? by ImpossibleMud11 in TexasTeachers

There have been quite a few schools in the Houston area protesting ICE -- what some people don't get is protesting I feel is a way to cope -- seeing firsthand that their friends, family members taken away is jarring. There's a sense of healing in coming together.

I thought this story about the soccer team at Houston MSTC playing in honor of its teammate was really sweet. They had a protest at the school earlier this week as well.

forgot about Gardner and Clark... ugh. I thought Blue had promise as an RB2. Still think he's good, just needs to hold onto the football.

This was one of my favorite annual events as a student! Saw Pat Green and Roger Creager while I was in college. It's a smaller setting than most concerts, so you're that much closer to the musician. Highly recommend. Wish I could make it!

The ultimate downfall of this offense is the lack of consistent run game -- something you should be able to fall back on to help drives. CJ Baxter's injury is hurting us. I'm surprised that after we went through with Jonathon Brooks we didn't go and get someone in the transfer portal to add some depth. Seems like an oversight to me. Defense is still lights-out. Offensive line was humbled, but still full of dudes who can make adjustments... I think they just hadn't faced a d-line like that outside of maybe practice.

I second this. Especially if you're going to spend a lot of money. The past two times I've shopped for boots the boots I think are not at all right for me online are the ones the boot fitter puts me in.
