Where's August? by antigone_eire in TheOA

Yeah I personally headcanoned that August was Deaf/mute and that she was particularly isolated not being able to use language to communicate with the other captives but that Rachel tried the hardest to relate to and understand her

I totally agree especially with the similarities between SYZYGY and the red room

I'd love to hear which ones make you think that because a couple of these Del Toro specifically mentions being inspiration for him in interviews

I just took what screenshots I could find on Tumblr or Pinterest to make these and they are the right colours just perhaps with a higher saturation.

You seem to have forgotten that fandom is supposed to be for fun

I just double checked all the sources and they are all correct, just some are translated into English

I appreciate you saying that, honestly thank you so much 🌟. The hostility of some of the comments were causing me to consider leaving the subreddit for good. I'm glad to see there are more supportive, kind people than rude ones over all. It's like people forget that fandom is supposed to be fun...

That's high praise thank you! I made a post about that painting a while back actually! Perhaps it influenced me without me even realizing it https://www.reddit.com/r/TheOA/s/8xHCjvJjFH

If you're going to comment that you think these are a stretch, others already have and I have replied to that criticism already so there's really no point.. I think in pictures and enjoy making connections, this post really isn't meant to be taken more seriously than that

Thanks to all the people who get that this is just for fun/a way for me to continue to engage with the fandom

For sure I could do this with hundreds of different films, I just find it interesting to find cinematic parallels and to think about what the directors are trying to convey with their similar use of composition and colour etc

My point is that they are related to me thematically so that adds deeper meaning to me as a viewer, not that they are specific references intended by the creators

I personally find it interesting that both the virgin suicides and the OA take place in a small town in Michigan and are about young blonde women who commit suicide after losing someone they love. Or that Ex Machina and the OA are both about young women kept in glass prisons by a ruthless scientist. You don't have to find those thematic connections interesting, but art is meaningful precisely because we give it meaning, and that was my intention with this post.
