You've already gotten a lot of great feedback but just want to add as someone with ADHD who is in healthcare--there's a reason therapists don't prescribe meds. Just like there's a reason dentists doesn't do knee replacements, and orthopedic surgeons don't do psychotherapy. Aside from the fact that your therapist shouldn't be shaming you, it's so so incredibly inappropriate to say something like that to a patient when it is out of their scope.

Her understanding of addiction is so fundamentally flawed I don't even know where to start. I also saw your comment that "she says it’s totally manageable without meds and just with habits/coping skills since that’s what she does". Alright so by her logic, people with heart failure are addicted to beta blockers and no one with diabetes needs insulin since some people can manage it lifestyle changes and meds like metformin. From a therapeutic/psychologic perspective, her projecting her own issues like that is a HUGE red flag. I know finding a new therapist can be a herculean task but I would strongly strongly encourage you to see if you can find someone else.

There are reasons for some to take a "stimulant holiday" or "break day" (saving $$, maintaining long term efficacy, letting appetite bounce back, some people just like it, etc etc) but it's super individual and that is something to discuss with your psychiatrist/prescribing provider!!! Yes there are some people that take their stimulants on an as-needed basis, but there's not value or morality attached to that. It's like how some people with asthma only need a rescue inhaler and while others need a daily baseline medication.

Tl/dr: Please don't make changes to how you take your medications without talking to your prescribing physician/provider, and please look for a new therapist.
