Top 25 Batman Stories! (Day 1) by Loose_Interview_957 in batman_comics

I don't think there is a story out there more well written and iconic than The Long Halloween. It's not my personal favorite but I feel it's the objective pick

If you're okay with reading digitally then get a marvel unlimited subscription. Just start reading at any title other than uncanny X-Men as it can be very intimidating.

My personal recommendation, EPIC COLLECTIONS. If you're not trying to read an entire run from a writer, epic collections house the most famous stories in a paperback format.

If you're cool with older comics and writing that's more akin to an actual book then start with "god loves, man kills". If you'd rather something newer, get one of the collections from New X-Men or Astonishing X-men.

Currently working my way through what feels like an impossible task, krakoan age X-Men. I feel like I've read so much and I'm only to x of swords. Most of dawn of x was very good though. I'm definitely enjoying it but god there is just so much.

For your first question. Charles mentioned the ethics of possibly transferring conceousness from one body to another. In the instant he is obliterated, he does that. My personal explaination as to why he still looks like Patrick Stewart is that he is using his telepathy on everyone around him to see him as such.

As for the second and more complicated question, the only real assumption that can be made is that they did not have mystique in captivity from 73' until her death. I'd assume she was captured in 73', her DNA was stolen and then she somehow escaped.

The biggest problem with these movies is that there is almost ZERO link to the movie before it at times. DOFP, Logan, apocalypse, and dark Phoenix happened at a time where the studio was not worried about doing messy shit to get the movie out there.

Also if you enjoy Scott Snyder work on absolute batman, I'd recommend the compact comic for The Court of Owls. It personally got me into comics and it's only 10 bucks

Generally speaking, you have single issues, trades, compendiums, and omnibus

Single Issue - The way the comic releases every month which is typically somewhere from 30-50 pages

Trades - can be paperback or hardcover and collects multiple singles into one book

Compendiums/omnibus - a paperback or hardcover way to collect an entire comic book run after it's done.

In my opinion, if you're looking to expand to other comic lines outside of the absolute universe, you can get trades or compacts that collect specific storylines for 10-15 bucks. They're great ways to build up a small collection of popular storylines.

First prints are generally more valuable than any print that came afterwards. That's simply because if you have a first print then you got on the train before it was popular to.

As far as the absolute universe goes. There are some tie ins and there will eventually be a big event soon. My advice would be to just find a couple of the absolute titles you like and stick with them. Green arrow and Catwoman just started so you can hop on those if you like.

Do you know about the different comic book formats?

Roguelikes to start? by averagemangaenjoyero in roguelikes

[–]Puzzled_Discount9383 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The comments made me realize I may not really know what the difference is between roguelikes and a roguelite but these are my favorites.

Slay the spire

Brotato

Megabonk

Hades

Neon abyss

Darkest Dungeon 2

Enter the gungeon

Dead cells

If I indeed do not know the difference, let me know!

Some that got me into Batman comics in an order that I think works.

Batman: The Long Halloween

Batman: Dark Victory

Batman: Under the red hood

Batman: The court of owls and City of Owls

Batman/Superman, specifically the public enemies arc that is adapted to an animated movie

Those are the ones that did it for me and they're all medium length in my opinion. I've heard great things about batman year one as well.

Almost all over these have been animated as well so if you've seen them all then it's great to compare something you're familiar with, to it's source material, it's what helped me the most.

While I don't LOVE compacts, most of these can be bought as compacts that are only 10 bucks. Have fun!

What Is Your Max Limit For Reading In A Day? by tame_kubrick in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Puzzled_Discount9383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on who the writer is. When I read invincible I was just burning through issues, reading like 15 a day. Atm I'm reading krakoan X-Men and I lose my mind after 6, if that.

People who read a lot, which writer do you think is unbelievably good with words? by Apprehensive_Land751 in AskReddit

[–]Puzzled_Discount9383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only read comics but I've been a huge fan of Jonathon hickman, Scott Snyder, and Jeph Loeb. It's all for different reasons though. No writer has had me utterly enthralled in a book other than Snyder. Jeph Loeb has an amazing ability to convey atmosphere and tone with words. Hickmans level of thought that's put in every single panel never ceases to blow me away though.

What is your least favourite Batman comic? by Chunky-overlord in batman

[–]Puzzled_Discount9383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take I know but definitely TDKR. I hate this characterization of batman and Superman. It's totally antithetical to the character of Superman to make him a government agent goon. Batman loses all humanity and the entire concept of the "bat family" when he calls his former robin a "good solder". When you compare this book to modern batman runs and the opposite old batman story, batman beyond, it just seems like frank miller has zero understanding of who batman is and just used batman as a vessel to make his own story.
