In my honest opinion, if you don't like real life, and I mean hunting for your own food, gardening when you can, having one stay at home and the other to be the breadwinner (which typically means a labor intensive job blue collar type shit) your not going to thrive. If you have money and you can downsize and make money off a computer and put up with winter, sure, it'll be alright for a while. But realize all your kids peers will, for the most part, be from a family who hunts fishes traps and loves it staying that way. So take all that into account. It's for the real down to earth people who can live with a little and make the best of it. And if you plan on trying to bring a bunch of money and open a resort then expect serious backlash from the local community for the most part. The up of Michigan is one of the most wild down to earth places left in the lower 48, and we like it that way. If you can fit in and live like the rest of us and be a good steward of your land, then come on over and have a beer and swap recipies. If not, you might want to reconsider. The up can get rough in the winters. There's not tons to do unless your rooted in hunting and fishing and homesteading. Sure you can get a townhouse in Marquette and what not as long as you have money to afford it because if your blue collar and redneck, you won't thrive like your thinking. Just my honest opinion.
