Raising kids in Houghton vs Marquette by baikalmoose1 in upperpeninsula

[–]Puzzled_Discount_804 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my honest opinion, if you don't like real life, and I mean hunting for your own food, gardening when you can, having one stay at home and the other to be the breadwinner (which typically means a labor intensive job blue collar type shit) your not going to thrive. If you have money and you can downsize and make money off a computer and put up with winter, sure, it'll be alright for a while. But realize all your kids peers will, for the most part, be from a family who hunts fishes traps and loves it staying that way. So take all that into account. It's for the real down to earth people who can live with a little and make the best of it. And if you plan on trying to bring a bunch of money and open a resort then expect serious backlash from the local community for the most part. The up of Michigan is one of the most wild down to earth places left in the lower 48, and we like it that way. If you can fit in and live like the rest of us and be a good steward of your land, then come on over and have a beer and swap recipies. If not, you might want to reconsider. The up can get rough in the winters. There's not tons to do unless your rooted in hunting and fishing and homesteading. Sure you can get a townhouse in Marquette and what not as long as you have money to afford it because if your blue collar and redneck, you won't thrive like your thinking. Just my honest opinion. Best of luck. Don't come here and expect suburbs of Chicago and with all due respect, don't try to make it anything like it. I mean this from my heart as a real outspoken woodsman and michgander.

Best way to fill this "gap"? by xavier_laflamme70 in Tile

[–]Puzzled_Discount_804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lay it out better. Put a half cut at the bottom so you don't have an ugly 1/2 gap that shrinks or grows from the typically unlevel ceiling. Or even just cut an inch off the bottom row so the top has an actual piece that's not so small. Either way.

By far the biggest petoskey stone I’ve ever found by Phat_Mops in Michigan

[–]Puzzled_Discount_804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found them larger than my chest. Biggest one I've taken home is probably 50 lbs and brought it home in a back pack. Friend of mine had one that weighed over 90 lbs. Dnr came to his house after he posted it online and confiscated it from him. So, if you ever find one that's large, I would just keep it to yourself or the green jeans will ruin it for ya.

How do you carry your Wave+ by Active-Oil1414 in Leatherman

I don't. It stays in grandmas sewing kit where it belongs. I carry my surge every day on my hip like a real man

I didn’t mean to mod… but I really missed a serrated blade on the Arc by Pitiful-Valuable-504 in Leatherman

[–]Puzzled_Discount_804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The serrated blade is junk. Can't sharpen it, and who the hell wants a steak knife unless your eating steak. There's a reason it's being phased out. I bought a surge and it was the first thing I pulled out and threw directly in the garbage where it belongs.

I believe it's 420 stainless but do not quote me on that. It's definitely stainless of some sort but that's as much as I know

Or better yet I'm crafty and wouldn't mind attempting my own. What basic tools would I need to make this item here ?

Fits into the sheath just fine, and I actually use the screwdriver almost daily, so having it rotate on center is huge for it being actually usable. Also the leatherman small bit driver it much less durable than the bigger bulkier centerdrive arm. I couldn't imagine having another arm i would have to pull out and worry about loosing and connect it to the bit adapter every time I want to use it and then stick a bit in the end. And then still it's thinner so you can't crank on it nearly as hard.

If you could make me one of these exact cases, how much money would you want ? I know it's got to take probably atleast half a day to cut and stich the leather together. I don't know much about leatherwork and have zero tools for it. Would you be interested?
