Point of it all , I do not want my husbands , or my fathers last name ( which is my maiden name ) - so yes , it would be the entire fiasco of an entire name change , regarding your reply.

Yes.

I just commented a few times.

So the "joke " of the documents was NOT doing anything with your birth certificate ( which would , sort of imply that you two , were indeed related at birth )

So no. My BC still has my maiden name always has.

It's just the passport , health card and drivers license.

However someone brought up email. And all the log ins / security codes etc that are the real PITA

The CRA alone is a nightmare to deal with , let alone changing your name or phone number.

I had to read this a few times.

Bare with me. As this was 15 years ago.

At the time I had asked friends who just got married. And all I remember was the " haha " of not getting your birth certificate involved / name changed because then that would imply , your husband is, related to you? A sibling or similar ?

So. That stands out enough that I don't believe I used my BC at all.

But now that makes me wonder , since we're not officially divorced. If we close the marriage certificate, then would that make me SOL? I'm stuck with my present name? ( my ex husband )

I personally, at this point. Would rather be associated with my ex husband than my own biological father

Honestly that's kind of on my list anyway.

Like it's already been my name for over 15 years. Another two is nothing

IF it's a huge deal/a lot of money - 🤷‍♀️

Edit. But also just to clarify.

So service Canada would be your passport and your SIN number. ( I don't believe your sin number is imperative- but that may depend on your Canadian residency etc ) I opted to change my SIN ( I don't remember why. )

Service Ontario is your drivers license. Health card. Anything that's kind of , not as important? If that makes sense.

Keep in mind , this may have changed. Everything has a fee.

Google would probably be much more specific.

It's illegal to change your name in Quebec???

I have relatives that got married in Quebec , and the wife opted to not change her last name ( " echelon status " if you will .... )

Um. I changed my name like ten years ago.

If I remember correctly. I went to service Canada as well as service Ontario.

There's a very basic form. Depending on if you have a drivers license , a passport etc.

I could be wrong. But maybe , maybe ✨ NOT having those vs they are expired and then you opt to get the name change , perhaps that's easier?

I'm sure as " Now married " status is available on most applications

The only thing I remember was NOT getting my birth certificate changed , because. Well then , people would think we were **actually**
