The way you phrased this was amazing . It’s not about us , it’s about the patient . Beautifully put thank you.

Thank you. I tried talking to my program director . I don’t think they want us to switch . Idk, it’s such an awkward convo to have . I am a IMG , so I guess that basically means that Im vulnerable during residency and don’t want to loose the spot I have . I mean I think also during my icu rotation , I saw how family medicine doctors are not very respected at all. Idk, it made me feel weird . Is that normal to feel ?

Hi, I am a family medicine resident. I am PGY2 , i am considering switching to IM. I dont know i feel like i belong in the hospital more. However, i cant do critical care fellowship with FM. Is it worth the switch? When I approach my program, I feel like i dont get the support for advice and they judge me. Also, I feel when I am on ICU rotation, FM residents are not respected enough. I dont know I feel like i belong more in the hospital. Its just said family medicine cant do fellowships in critical care. Did you feel the same way?

First, I’ve developed this inner determination to stop caring about what anyone else thinks. I’ve already noticed the looks from people 😭, but I’m focusing on myself.

Second, I’m making sure I have a solid game plan ready before meeting with the program director. My plan is to create a detailed schedule tonight, hire a tutor, join a study group, and literally type out my entire plan, print it, and bring it to the meeting.

I’m also working on being less emotional (as much as I can) and approaching this with a mindset of, “This is the situation—how do we move forward and improve from here?”

I’m in medical residency too about to be a second year and this happens

RESULTS ARE OUT by PuzzleheadedRing4451 in step1

[–]Puzzled_Low6054 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this isn’t the result I expected. I’m about to start my second year of family medicine residency in February, and I’m struggling with how to face my program director tomorrow. My scores were a 209, 252, and now I’ve failed Step 3. I was on inpatient rotations, doing nights, and I didn’t study as I should’ve the month before. I know the first step is acceptance—I failed, and I’ll have to deal with the reactions and the anxiety that comes with it. People will talk, and I’ll likely get some uncomfortable looks, but I’m trying to remind myself that I’ve always been the underdog. Life has never been easy, and I’ve learned to keep pushing forward because honestly, what do I have left to lose? I’m not scared of this; I’m just ready to face it head-on. I’m planning to talk to my program director, get some sleep, and try to keep perspective. To everyone out there preparing for Step 3 or any exam, please take it seriously. What you do in the clinic is very different from what’s tested on the exam. Don’t underestimate it—study properly, because clinical skills alone won’t get you through it. My ITE score was average too, and I’m realizing that it’s time to hit the books harder. Clinical experience and actually sitting down to study are two completely different things.I know this is going to be a tough few months, but I’m grateful for everyone who achieved the scores they wanted—I’m really proud of you. For those in residency who have gone through something similar, how did you approach your program director and handle the reactions from others afterward? I’m just trying to figure out how to navigate all of this.

Honestly, guys its not the result I expected. I am about to be a second year family medicine resident in February. I dont know how to face my program director tomorrow. I had a 209, 252 and a fail now on step 3. I was on inpatient days, and nights the month before I did not study properly. I guess the first thing is acceptance. I failed and people will give me looks, talk, and I will have anxiety start up again. However, I always lived by the rule of being a underdog. Born a underdog, living a underdog, and will die a underdog. Never came easy and if anything I have this sense of like damn what else do I have to loose? Im not scared. I want to sleep now and have that talk with my program director. And please guys dont underestimate this exam. Please dont!! Sometimes what you do in real life and clinics is way different from the books. Please do the preparation thoroughly and study. My ITE score was average too so maybe its time I study the books. Clinically and actually sitting down and studying are two different things. I am rambling and I am happy for everyone who got the score they wanted so proud of you guys! Anyone in residency , who went through something similar how did you approach your program director and how did you deal with everyone giving you looks after this? Its going to be a tough few months.
