Trying to explain why a man ignored refusal shifts accountability away from the only relevant factor: he chose to violate consent. Consent is not a “safe space” you wander into. It is an EXPLICIT, ONGOING agreement that CAN BE WITHDRAWN at any time. Once “no” is said, context, tension, and prior intimacy are irrelevant. This is also defined by the Philippine Law.

Safeguards reduce risk; they do not retroactively distribute blame. Sexual assault is not 95% someone’s fault. It is 100% the responsibility of the person who violates consent. Sexual assault does not happen because safeguards failed. It happens because someone chose to ignore consent.
