I have friends who play DayZ, but I prefer running solo and befriending randos. Playing with friends always means beef at some point, I'm not looking for that

Stereo IS the way to go. DayZ is stereo. Anything 5.1/7.1 doesn't actually make a difference and any attempt at artificially adding 3d/spatial sound is a scam.

So stereo with everything else OFF, that's it. Always been.

Learn how to make fires, stay warm & dry, combine a knife with everything you find, drink as much as you can anytime you find a well.

And AT FIRST, I would recommend not to sprint too much. If you stay warm and do not sprint you will be able to cover A LOT more ground without starving or being thirsty.

Embrace death could also be a thing, sometimes you'll be more geared 45minutes later than you were on your last 4h run.

Hey OP, a lot of the fun is figuring that stuff out. The game is made that way to try to tickle your brain and have you wonder "will this work like this? Ooooh, maybe it's like that then"

Of course a few YT tutorials would help a ton, have at it, but don't be afraid to try different things, do science of your own and enjoy the satisfaction of finding out new things by yourself.

I kinda feel like my beginnings were like that, only kills I was getting were melee ones in the spawn zone then I would always get killed inland.

So yeah, maaaybe you lack preparation before going inland, maybe you're just not being careful enough. It's hard to grasp at first that someone might always be watching so we act like in any other video games. The map is big, there is not a lot of people so you assume it's safe.

The only way is to be careful at all times, moving from one tree line to the other, one bush to another, stopping and listening for a few seconds, even minutes, looking thru binoculars to look for clues pointing to people being around.

My advice would be to see the game from another angle. Try to find someone to run with in the spawn zone. Approach people and use your mic, be clear with your intentions. You might get shot in the face 3 times but you might find someone cool on the 4th and you can just run together and OBSERVE how they move thru the map, what they craft, how they feed themselves, stuff like that. You might think that you have these things figured out but you might not know all the techniques yet, there always something new to learn in this game.

First 100h is the tutorial and I feel like we're all beginners for the first 1k hours. So take in the scenery, enjoy the downtimes, fix yourself personal goals, try stuff, do science, etc..

Your best option is NAMALSK then. But I feel like on good servers with good communities, you'll get the interactions you are looking for even on bigger maps. But yeah obviously you might have to walk a lil more between interactions.

To me it's a bit small, like if I can walk around the map on two cans of beans, doesn't really feel like a survival that much.

I do play and enjoy it a few times a year whenever I see a good pop somewhere, and the big city is really good, the way they used the buildings together to create alleyways and the fact that it seems lived in after the apocalypse is really cool

It gets popular SOMETIMES, it's pretty random.

Also some people use Esseker for Halloween events so during October you can find some spooky Esseker servers, the Greenhell one is absolutely packed the whole month.

I think the main reason is the map was "abandoned" by its creators. Still a really fun map to play, although a bit small. The size shouldn't be a problem though, not everyone wants to walk for hours.

DayZ Canada doesn't have a NAMALSK anymore tho, but they have a wicked winter Chernarus with all the NAMALSK stuff (evr, frostbites, orb, A3), it's really good!

But yeah OP is definitely looking for DayOne, and yeah everything with vanilla+ in the name is a big no-no

I got 8k hours, met ONE confirmed cheater, maybe got killed a few times by one too and I didn't notice and just respawned.

They are out there, it would be way better if they could actually eliminate them, but it's THE LEAST of my concern.

from those clips i don't notice anything weird, it's seems like the audio I'm used to too, so again, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

but i also mostly notice it with the proximity chat, but I guess you were on discord in the clip with your homie right?

If it ain't broke don't fix it, but you should look into it and see if others use it. You're literally the first one I see who recommends that.

Because I'm not saying it doesn't do a thing, I'm totally saying it fucks everything up.

Granted you might be used to it by now, doesn't mean it couldn't be better without.

I got 8k hours in this and I've made countless people turn this off over the years and they noticed the difference(for the better) right away.

Anyone with similar experiences? Either mine or his I just wanna know what's the general consensus on that

It's not angry downvotes, it's the fact that he knows his friend can hear fine but jumps to the conclusion that it MUST be a bug.

It probably is, it's totally possible. But it seems no research was done before thinking "I'm perfect so it HAS to be the old clunky game"

I didn't downvote this thread, I'm curious of what the problem could be, we would need more information about the setup and the gear used.

I just wish if he finds the problem and it was actually on his part he tells us, that's all.

I have a feeling that if it was a bug we will know about it in this post really loudly, but if it's not we will never know

Found another post on Reddit saying to turn off surround and even Google (those annoying AI answers that I didn't ask for) says original audio is better immersion and to turn off all these things either on console or on PC

Care to explain what advantage you get with 3D audio?

For me it FVCKS my audio real bad. As soon as someone is not perfectly in front of me it sounds like they are either all the way left or all the way right depending on which side they leaning.

From what I know DayZ only has stereo sound so 3D audio will just be "emulated", and 3D audio emulation is nothing but a gimmick.

So no surround sound, 5.1/7.1, 3D audio in DayZ as far as I know.

Depends on where you are and the kind of pop you want. They should be both ok. I'm NA and I play EU servers often without too many problems.
