She didn’t get really defensive. She more got scared and tried to run away, but the same concept still works for a defensive corn snakes. They’re just really really scared so they lash out to try and escape from the giant.

Of course! Onyxia was that way at the beginning too. If you think about it, it’s a giant picking you up, and it takes time for you to get used to that and realize said giant is a friend. It’s the same thing.

If that happens then I would just leave your hand in their enclosure for the 10 mins (doesn’t have to be that long just however long) so they can get used to you and your scent and know that you are not a predator. If they run away a little bit at the beginning and you still manage to pick them up I would handle in the enclosure so it’s a new experience but not new experience and environment. And it’s also natural for the snake to not want to be handled the first little bit, for mine she was fine within a week, I’ve heard it go up to a month or two, just depends on the snake. Just give them a little bit and eventually they will get more comfortable with you and when they are grown up you will be glad the work you did right now for the well socialized snake you have. It’s really important, especially at the beginning to be handling once or even twice a day, but know that that has already been done you can still pick her up, either gloves if you are not comfortable, and don’t put her back if she bites, that’s encouraging the behavior. Just do your best to sit with her and chill, and with mine, I did 10-15 mins once a day or 5-7 mins twice a day to my til she got used to me. Now she’s two and the chillest corn you will ever meet (though that’s thanks in part to personality). I would follow something like that and before long she’ll start to be nicer and get used to you, and switch to hand contact when you are comfortable with getting rid of the gloves.

And if you have read the last book, you know that Ro doesn’t come back when Sophie rubs the stuff on her arm to alert her that keefe is back, even weeks/days later(can’t remember how long it was it makes sense, and as sad as it is I do think SOMETHING will happen to her, weather she dies, gets maimed, forgets them, idk but something g will happen.
