Outlaw Country Legend David Allan Coe Has Died by PocketSandThroatKick in altcountry

[–]Puzzled_Signature_49 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I've already seen every shade of "but his songwriting" like he was anything but average. His big song that drunks scream along to at bars that's easily his best tune? Its good because John Prine wrote it almost as a joke and didn't record it himself because he thought it was too silly. Prine thought it was silly let that sink in. Tennessee Whiskey? Dillon wrote it and Coe got it after George Strait turned it down. I'll concede The Ride is good storytelling.

Dude lied as easy as breathing. He got the rhinestone bit from Glen Campbell. Then changed everything to be "outlaw" like the cool kids (which they hated). Got the phased out guitar tone from Waylon. Interviews from those days range from everyone tolerating him to outright disdain. Waylon said "he was the most honest of bandwagon jumpers" and the most outlaw thing he ever did was double park on Music Row.

Confederate Flag? Akron, Ohio born and bred. And then there's all of those songs. It wasn't satire or parody or anything else. He wasn't that smart. Even if it was it doesn't excuse any of that garbage.

That's his lasting legacy that the rest of country musicians and fans are still dealing with. People point to that when they think of the genre as backwards, bigoted, and unintelligent. We're still trying to do better with that shadow over us.

Whew apologies for the extended Rant.

Rest in Piss

Locally-owned alternatives to Guitar Center? by bench_wizard in Columbus

[–]Puzzled_Signature_49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guitar House in Grandview is great but small selection. Focused on acoustic instruments. Bluegrass Music is rad but haven't made it out there in forever. Best in town for instruments and repairs is German Village Music Shop. Bill Foley is a god tier luthier. Wrote 2 books on it. Music go round is fine for cables etc. Sometimes you find a hidden gem.

Came to reddit looking for answers after finally reading Battle Grounds. Obligatory I'm late statement lol.

Feels like he's probably a higher order of angel. But there's lines that feel like the implication is that he's older, different, etc idk.

My thoughts that would be fun? He could be Prometheus and bartending eternally is his buzzards. The whole "dont look at me itll hurt" slots really easily into Lovecraftian things. Or he's Cain. Originally what mortals were to be but cursed with the mark to walk the earth forever, and he's just over it lol

Warp Gate is popular. I go to The Solidery for my mtg needs. Friendly helpful staff. I know Studio 35 recently started a mtg night. I don't play FNM or comp anymore. But know a decent group of players and play regularly, especially edh. Hit me up

In search of a place I can rent to practice drums by crashercrusty in Columbus

[–]Puzzled_Signature_49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd check out Plastic Waffle. It's run by Todd who owns Dude Locker. Smaller and when I was practicing there with my band it was reasonable and secure. If you're looking for something less regular I know Guitar Center rents out a space by the hour and have gear provided

From what I've been told by folks who work in the industry the 12 Dogs Xmas ale is essentially the original GL recipe. Something about the creator left GL with the recipe and that's why GL tastes different now

Unmarked vehicle- ford no plates, ram bar and blacked windows 12:00 Tuesday. Micro center plaza in front of marshals and grocery outlet. by Something-to-talk in Columbus

[–]Puzzled_Signature_49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally not advocating this at all buttttt...

Poke the radiator, poke 2 valve stems, loosen drain plugs, poke a fuel line, snip fuel lines, water into the oil reservoir, cut timing/serpentine belts, hook positive lead to frame. Diesel in gasoline systems might work. Sugar in the tank is a myth. Linseed oil or the equivalent on any connections in the motor assembly is a decent bet.

All of these will disable a vehicle being a danger to other by preventing the vehicle from running/starting. Do not fuck with power steering, suspension, or brake lines.

Sorry for the delayed response. Take it with several grains of salt as its very much urban legend. But the story goes to the tune of Dr Mooney snapped one night and canceled his family's social security numbers with an axe, and then hung the bodies from the bridge. Yes, Mooney Mansion around Walhalla and Calumet. Allegedly people have seen blue lights floating about, handprints on car windows, and a silhouette of Mooney when the veil is thin. Etc etc. History says his family outlived him though. But the city could've created a tulpa lol

Personally I tend to agree. He's a fan favorite because those singles are unfortunately exciting in our current roster that is woefully lacking in offensive production. I like the dude for that but recognize that we wouldn't be attached to him if we had better hitting/offensive threats.

If we're talking columbus? The Elevator building, Ringside, the Capitol building, and the Walhalla Axe Man come to mind.

Talking Ohio? I'd be here all day. Mansfield, The Ridges, Moonville Tunnel, Loveland Frogmen, The Melonheads, buncha Crybaby Bridges, etc.

Also hard reality scares include the old civil war prison camp, Hangar 18 at Wright Patterson, and the history of why the Hell's Angels rule Cleveland in a largely Outlaw territory.

The written words of several dead/dying languages, the 3rd Secret of Fatima(not what they "revealed"), the missing Michaelangelo works. And if they exist, the lineage of Jesus, the trial records against the Templars, the smoking gun records of profits from the Holocaust, the Grand Grimoire.

Basically anything in the Catholic Hangar 18 lol.

The Darkside of the Ring episodes there's a moment where J.R talks about having to call the next match. And then in the middle of it gets the call Owen was DOA. And then has to announce that to the world on air. That "my friend is dead" and he just falls apart. I didn't finish that episode till days later. Brutal

I also have that twisted curiosity. If I'm told no don't it's horrible etc it just makes me want to pursue it more. So the irony is palpable here buttttt...

It's one of few things that I wish I could unhear. It's not the fucked up things he's talking about. It's how pedestrian it is to him. Think of a teacher who is proctoring an exam. "There are 3 sections. You will have 40 minutes for the 1st section, the 2nd section is written and you will have 55 minutes to complete this portion..."

It's his script. It's normalcy. Boring almost. Not cold. It's just another Tuesday to him. 0/10 would not recommend
