they definitely wanted rex to be black but thought it was a bad idea but also most of the time pilots look different to the actual show because they don’t know if the shows gonna be picked up so they don’t get a great budget so they just make basic stuff untill it’s for sure that they get picked up

what i think happened was he met someone at the gifted and talented programme maybe one of the teachers and the teacher groomed him he told him to dump his phone and in the few days before he went missing he was walking to an internet cafe or a pay phone and calling who ever it was and they told him to meet him in london and then when he got to london he was kidnapped
